Okay, the greatest threat will be an armadillo - I think one of these - probably the SP101 - would be fun - and appropriate. The Georgia Arms loaded 100gr Hornady XTP JHP in .32 H&RM makes 1,186 fps from the 4.6" SS SSM barrel - probably close to that from the 4" SP101. That's nearly 312 ft-lb KE - with no recoil. My popper load, a 115gr LRNFP .32-20 bullet making 730 fps, produces 135 ft-lb. I think a speedloader of each, probably a carry load of an interim load - like a 96gr LRNFP @ 850 fps - would fill the bill.
Of course, the 4" .32M SP101 is pretty hard to find, having been axed a year ago. The 3" (KSP-3231X - see pg 57 of the '07 catalog.) still exists - Davidson's had a bunch the last time I looked. The little windage-only adjustable rear sight is a bit of a joke, but those lead loads hit close enough vertically at 12-15yd, my plinking range, while the 100gr hot JHP's are a bit high. The SP101, using just a mini-GP100/SRH lockwork, responds well to some basic clean-up and deburring, thanks to Ruger's poor QC - and even the lightest Wolff springs are useable - mine, so equipped, still pops all commercial loads I've tried, as well as my Fed & Win primered homebrews - and produced a quite decent little trigger - for a Ruger. The Hogue monogrip helped for my clumsy mitts.
The SSM sports a blued top Bisley hammer, not original.
