Colt?!

You didn't include Colt in your survey?!?!?! (Pause to wipe the tears my eyes) Leaving out Colt is like forgetting about your Mom, or baseball, or apple pie, or hotdogs!

Sam Colt just rolled over in his grave!

Why didn't I include Colt? Because they've virtually abandoned the civilian market. They don't need me, I don't need them.

If you do, great. To each his own.

You know what...that very fact nailed me square between the eyes about 4 days ago! You are correct in that position. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Bushmaster, RRA, etc. When this fact his me (actually, I guess it more like 10 days ago), I decided then and there to buy my DPMS AR rifle, and not the Colt. I do like my 1911s though. Fact is though, that even ol' Sam Colt himself preferred to sell to the government, and he charged a premium for his products. Guess their corporate mentality has come back full circle.

I know the old gray mare ain't what she used to be but she is responsible for two of the greatest handguns in history; the Single Action Army and the M1911. Therefore my favorite brand is Colt.

my vote went to springfield. i love there 1911's and i love the xd's they have about all the bases covered as far as i am concermed as far as potions and semi-auto handgun choices, they are great company that makes great weapons, and they continue to come out with new stuff all the time. good customer service as well!

What? no Hi-Point named in the poll?

BTW I voted S&W

Reminds me of an old joke. Back in high school if someone knocked up their girlfriend you asked if they were having a dual minister wedding.
ie: officiated by Smith and Wesson:evil:

I can't pick just one. And there are many gun makers not even listed there that make fine guns. Since handguns are used for self defense, hunting, target, and plinking, it is possible to own and love guns for each of these purposes that were made by different manufacturers.

I picked HK, but mostly for the older things like the P7 PSP (I prefer the heel mag release) and the P9S. I also like that they were one of the only companies around a while back that offered a threaded .45 right from the factory, which was handy when I started shopping for a can.

First choice: Wilson 1911 (especially the Classic model)
Second choice: S&W N frame revolver (especially the 629 Classic)

Good shooting and be safe.

My knee-jerk vote was for Browning, but thinking about it, I should have voted "other," because my overall favorite is FN Herstal.

My favorite individual gun is not a Ruger, but it's probably my favorite brand. You really can't go wrong buying a Ruger no matter what style handgun or caliber handgun you're considering. They may not be sexy but they will be well built, reliable, and decently priced.

I voted S & W because of my experiences with the M & P line (I have a full sized 40 caliber, a 9mm compact and will have the 45 caliber soon), their revolvers are great and with a no B.S. lifetime warranty when rarely needed.
Exactly TxPhantom.

It was a tough choice for me. Great quality comes from brands like Kimber, SIG, and others. I consider Glocks to be "great", even though I completely hate them :) S&W covers a range of gun types with great quality, great reliability, and less cost than the 'elite' brands. Smith has my vote, and a little bit of my money.
