Wheel Weights and Mixing With Alloyed Lead

A 1:1 ratio of COWW:SOWW is a popular alloy that’s almost guaranteed to expand at 1300 FPS or faster. Just something to consider. I use that alloy as a PB in 308 and 44 magnum at 1700-1800 FPS with no issues and great accuracy.

If you are powder coating you can get by pretty well mixing clip on weights 50-50 with soft lead. If that doesn't fill out well you can add a small % of tin. I wouldn't worry too much about hardness.

Like a few of the others, I have been casting for a while. I was also saving weights back when they were plentiful and cheap. So I use straight clip-on weights for my handguns and 45-70.

Oh yeah, tin prices are crazy!

I've always used straight WWs for all my cast bullets regardless of the caliber.

The clip on weights are not very farm from Lyman #2 (90% lead, 5%Tin, 5% Antimony). In the 230 grain mold I use as my standard, 90,5,5 drops at 230 gn and clip on WW drop at 232 gn.

Pure lead drops at 240 gn but I can cut in Lynotype (84,4,12) and make them harder/lighter as the lead content is reduced.
