lol nomad101bc! You remind me of me when I was 19 or so. I had a buddy who was able to get a hold of firearms at 19, so we went out to the country and shot off an old bridge into a creek with a .40 cal taurus pt. It was fun.
re your alcohol thing... you never outgrow that. Remember, at 19 you're having the time of your life, and when you run into your old buddies in a few years at the bar, you can always bring up that texas blonde that gave you such a run for your money.
I shouldn't give you advice, but I'm going to share how I did it. I left home at 19 as a freshman in college working at a fast food place. I bought a mossberg 12 gauge because I lived in the worst (albeit cheapest) part of town... the last gun I bought until a few months before my 21st b-day when I was at the gun shop and saw a Sig p226 w/ 3 high cap mags (this during the ban) for $475. Knowing the shop owner, he put it in the back on layaway until I was 21. I deposited $20 (all I had) and stopped by there every friday night on the way home after cashing my check and gave him a little more.
On my 21st b-day I took the day off from work and waited for the shop owner to get there just before 9 am. The first thing he says to me "happy birthday" just smiled like a possum eating grapes. He's got my gun laid out with a nice red bow on it, and the paperwork that I filled out the week before waiting for him to call in. He calls it in, and tells me to pick up a box of 9mm while I'm waiting.... I get the cheapest stuff he's got, put it on the counter. He looks at the sheet and says "balance is $40" so, I give him $40 cash.... $10 borrowed from a friend. I put the ammo back on the shelf and tell him that will have to wait. He gets confirmation and gives me the gun. then asks me what I've got planned for my birthday. Told him about my plans to meet up with my pals that night for a few beers and poker, otherwise just watching tv and playing with my new pistol. He says "well, why don't you go get that box of 9mm back off the shelf. don't say I never gave you nothin" so, I did. He then reaches into the register and pulls out $7. "range fee is $5 down the street, targets are 50 cents and hearing protection is $1 to rent. It's on us"
If you just save up all the money, you're not going to have the cool stories. It's more of an adventure this way, and it's definitely more fun to reminesce.
