When I turn 21 must purchase hand guns!

Dont worry I am an eagle scout with no criminal record. Not even the ATF is going to be able to dig anything up on me to justify any sort of hassel.

if you're buying a first gun, make it a 22. if you're buying two guns, make atleast one of them a 22. they dont seem very manly but it is way cooler to shoot 1000 rounds than 100 for the same money. plus you will become a much better shooter with you're other guns. my friends all have the bigger guns and my one 22 has more rounds through it than all of theirs combined. Everybody shoots a magazine or two through theres and then the rest of the time shooting 22. I am really starting to question if i need a gun bigger than a 22. i just love shooting it. Might need a 1911 and/or 357 snub to carry and a 454/460/500 etc to blow up elephants, but i'll always come back to the .22s.

Get the standard cap mags now and other gear you'll need now once you've settled on the models you're getting.

And yes, you will need a 1911.
a .357 revolver
a .22 target pistol.

You'll have the cash NOW--so buy quality. After my own 21st B-Day pistol buy, it took me 13 years to buy another weapon. Priorities change rapidly and quality firearms age gracefully.

Lol maybe instead of the .45 sig ill go with a 1911. If you read my list theres already a .22 semi auto maybe a ruger mark 2 will be a good chioce. I dont like the mark 3's because the stupid slide release gets hit everytime you shoot causing it to jam every 3 rounds.

I don't know if your mainly looking for only handgun suggestions, but i also want to mention that if there are any high-cap or "assault rifles" that you would want, asap is the time to get those, you never know who will be in office come '09, or what new laws or bans may come out.

Ohh theres two AR-15's on my non pistol dream list, also a desire for an AR-10 for some long range target shooting and hunting, m1 garand that takes strip clips not magazines. Two shotguns as well maybe even three. A tactical 12 gauge for HD, an over under double barreled with chokes etc. for clay pigeon, and the beretta extrema 2 looked pretty awsome, i would not mind maybe one black powder either since they do have longer hunting seasons but this is strictly hand gun.

In Looosiana I bought my first pistol at 18 from an individual. I am 20 and I have owned a few handguns.

To hell with dealers. :D

Well unfortanetly my state of residence will remain CT. I sure as hell dont plan on making it Kansas where i go to college thier gun laws are worse than CT's. Any concealed carry owner in Kansas is not allowed to use a normal DMV only a state run facility otherwise they show up as a repeat offender. There are all sorts of gun free zones in Kansas too rather big disapointment to the rest of the midwest in terms of 2nd amendment id honestly say CT laws are almost better minus the asinine waiting periods.

lol nomad101bc! You remind me of me when I was 19 or so. I had a buddy who was able to get a hold of firearms at 19, so we went out to the country and shot off an old bridge into a creek with a .40 cal taurus pt. It was fun.

re your alcohol thing... you never outgrow that. Remember, at 19 you're having the time of your life, and when you run into your old buddies in a few years at the bar, you can always bring up that texas blonde that gave you such a run for your money.

I shouldn't give you advice, but I'm going to share how I did it. I left home at 19 as a freshman in college working at a fast food place. I bought a mossberg 12 gauge because I lived in the worst (albeit cheapest) part of town... the last gun I bought until a few months before my 21st b-day when I was at the gun shop and saw a Sig p226 w/ 3 high cap mags (this during the ban) for $475. Knowing the shop owner, he put it in the back on layaway until I was 21. I deposited $20 (all I had) and stopped by there every friday night on the way home after cashing my check and gave him a little more.

On my 21st b-day I took the day off from work and waited for the shop owner to get there just before 9 am. The first thing he says to me "happy birthday" just smiled like a possum eating grapes. He's got my gun laid out with a nice red bow on it, and the paperwork that I filled out the week before waiting for him to call in. He calls it in, and tells me to pick up a box of 9mm while I'm waiting.... I get the cheapest stuff he's got, put it on the counter. He looks at the sheet and says "balance is $40" so, I give him $40 cash.... $10 borrowed from a friend. I put the ammo back on the shelf and tell him that will have to wait. He gets confirmation and gives me the gun. then asks me what I've got planned for my birthday. Told him about my plans to meet up with my pals that night for a few beers and poker, otherwise just watching tv and playing with my new pistol. He says "well, why don't you go get that box of 9mm back off the shelf. don't say I never gave you nothin" so, I did. He then reaches into the register and pulls out $7. "range fee is $5 down the street, targets are 50 cents and hearing protection is $1 to rent. It's on us"

If you just save up all the money, you're not going to have the cool stories. It's more of an adventure this way, and it's definitely more fun to reminesce.

Thanks for that post kelly! I love it! LOL It was like sitting on my Grandparent's lap and listening to them tell stories! :)

Well I have already mixed beer and fireworks thats gotta count for something. I set off full mortars which are highly illegal in Kansas but I had bought them in kansas city Missouri out of the back of some truck. those were fun it was like having your own private fireworks show and you had the best seat. I was drunk enough that the lighter burning my hand did not bother me at all. We knew a good japanese restaurant that would not card so we gave em nice tips.

But id never drink were i concealed carrying and honestly will never touch a firearm if intoxicated not likely id be able to figure out the two little master locks guarding it for that matter. But more importantly drinking usually has rather crappy adventures. Like when a fat chick almost took advantage of me when i was almost pass out drunk on tequilla; lol thank god my friend dragged me outa the club...No i think i have had enough drinking adventures and if i get caught with it ever I'd be lucky to keep my ROTC scholarship.

Remember when I almost got college paid for...does'nt make a great story when among friends you know? But remember when i drove the ATF crazy purchasing 5 handguns at once sure does.

Buy all the mags and ammo you can now and save yourself the headache of overpaying later in case of another AWB.

Hmm buying the extra mags ahead of time is not a bad idea. The ammo idea is kind of odd especailly if i had to explain why i have all this ammo for guns i dont own. But buying certain accessories ahead of time is not a bad idea except I wont know which i like best so i wont really know for which gun i need more than two mags.

Find a range that rents guns and try out a few. Ammo prices keep going up and do not look like they will come down anytime soon. Also, a bill could pass limiting the amount of ammo one could buy or even have in there home at a time. Everyone needs at least one hi-cap 9mm in there collection. I keep at least 500 rounds of it and Glock 17 standard cap 17 round mags and 33 round mags are pretty cheap right now.

Well my next major purchase is looking like an Iron sighted Camp Perry legal AR-15 about 1,500$. Or a varmit AR-15 predator ment to take the lighter loads for small game that i could mount a cheap scope on. I have a bit more in my account than i had originaly thought so I should be able to purchase an AR-15 and these hand guns.

Smith and Wesson Mod 28-2 High Way Patrol. As issued condition 4 or 6 inch Barrel. Will never wear it out. Gun Broker or Action Arms. Buy them before they are all gone.

Mod 19 S&W police trade in in 98% condition, 4" pinned BBl and recessed cylinder. Great revolver.

1911 quality clone .45 ACP

9mm Browning High Power (Classic and should satisfy the spray and pray demmon we all cary)

If you insist upon a .40 cal revolver get a Mod 57 S&W pinned bbl and recessed cylider, you will love it. 98% or better condition. Be warned .41 mag revolvers are addicting!

Have fun

Hmm that opens up a whole new can of worms magnums...maybe just one or two might have to be added. Only issue with magnums is no one will allow me to shoot them at thier ranges. My range wont let you because peices would start flying off thier back stop.

quote-
"Well being 19 years old I am planning on saving up lots of money over the next 2 years so that when i turn 21 i can purchase a whole bunch of handguns at once. "

You don't have to spend all of that money on just guns. Buy a few, invest the rest of your dough on something that will generate equity or interest so you can buy more guns later in life. You don't want to be one of those 25 - 30 year olds still living in your parent's house or sharing an apartment or trailor with a roommate. The earlier you establish sound economic practices, the better off you will be. Trust me. I was 19 once and decided then to take the road less traveled. It pays off in time.

Beuty of the GI bill is a i get a nice helper on my first mortage. Dont worry i got everything planned out and because my parents are well enough off they will help. For instance as soon as i make ROTC physical standards my parents are going to purchase a car for me. Might even pay for my gas and other minor expenses so the money they will save me will allow me to buy all of these guns.

while your waiting to turn 21 you can have some fun with suppressors! I just turned 21 in january and am now throwing an swr shadow 9 on my 9mm kimber stainless target II, just got approved by the atf yesterday. Great thing about silencers are you dont have to be 21
