When is it time to give up our guns (age)?

This has been an interesting thread that we will all have to address if we live long enough. Hope I go peacefully before I ever get to that point but it does not always work out that way. To me age is not the determining factor in these matters but more mental and physical condition. My plan is to keep going full speed ahead until I drop. Hope it works out that way.

^^Me too.
However, I realize unplanned events can and do happen. I am fortunate that I have raised two children who greatly enjoy their time spent with me in many avenues including hunting, shooting, reloading, and taking gun-related classes together. I have full faith and confidence that when that day arrives, they will do what is in the best interests of our family. All that I ask is that they bring me along to the range, and let me sit in the comfortable shade and enjoy watching them practice the skills they were taught. Seems I get more enjoyment doing that now already. I also enjoy funding it all too.

A caring family member or a committee of caring family members should make this decision versus some government. We can take care of our own.

Taking is part of the question...... selling them? giving them to other family members? taking them to the scrap yard? Or simply holding them pending resolution down the road?

I will say that if the person who is determined to be a danger to himself or others by family members still has their faculties, be prepared to be taken out of the will.

I am too, like BSA1, am battling a disease that will most likely claim my life within the next ten years. I should be able to keep a sound mind though. I've talked it over with my wife. I want a couple of rifles to go to my grandson, provided he becomes a responsible young man. My daughter and son will get a couple also and I think the rest will be sold off. So, while one has a sound mind and body, this is a good discussion to have with your family. I think at some point, I"ll just have a big garage sell for all the knives, reloading equipment and hunting gear and Deer mounts.

Skyshot, this is one of the most difficult situations when you know that a disease will claim your life within a finite period of time. Post invitations to your garage sale. Many here would give your stuff a good home when the time comes.

Age or illness is a tough pill to swallow at times. I hope that I can make my own decisions when the time comes that people feel that "the stuff has to go".
