Ruger launched the RPR last year and the rifles sold like hot cakes. The targeted $900 street price was more like $1100-1400 most places since there was such heavy demand. Ruger added a metal bolt shroud and a muzzle brake this year, but it is as though neither the 2015 or 2016 models are available anywhere. Does anyone know if Ruger stopped production or know what the story is?

Not hard to find as long as you dont think youre going to get one for MSRP

My neighbor waited months for one in .308 to show up around WA state. I visited Idaho a couple of months ago and an LGS there had .308s in stock and no 6.5s.... they're out there. Not very common though. I saw one in .243 in Idaho also.

In the DFW area of TX I found a shop that had both the Ruger as well as the Savage Model 12 in Plano.

You just have to get online to get the numbers and keep calling around.

Do you guys think they're more difficult to find because they get bought up quickly or does Ruger just not produce too many of them? Maybe a combination of those two factors? I know they're out there, especially on Gun Joker, but compared to other guns, they are more rare and typically priced at or above MSRP. Think about if you want a Glock 19... You can hop online and find one on just about every gun shop and it's more a matter of just finding the best deal. In any case, hopefully they become more readily available and start selling below MSRP.

You will see them drop under MSRP in 3-4 years if thats your goal. Its new and there isnt much in the price range that compares. Just pony up the money if you want one and stop counting your pennies. You cant take them with you when you die. They cost what they cost. The MSRP is meaningless.

There's a lot of people on here who would know better than me, but my impression is that a lot of rifle production is seasonal, or at least cyclical. I know that one year ago I was looking for a CZ 527 and a Ruger Guide Gun -- I couldn't find either in stock for months (excepting overpriced examples on gunbroker). I was patient, and eventually CZ america received a big batch of CZ 527s, and Ruger made more guide guns (though I didn't buy one at the time). My advice is to be patient, you'll be rewarded with a lower price.

I don't get why they are that in demand to be honest. Savage has a similar rifle out now and every savage I've owned has been a tack driver. And at least savage had some name in the LE world.

Mostly I just love to hate on Ruger rifles :neener:

You probably own gLoCks as well.

Actually traded the only one I had for a Hi Power clone.

I kind of understand the chassis/tube style guns but prefer savage triggers, and their reputation. The only Rugers I've ahot were hunting rifle accurate but that is.

I understand their barrels are much better now but that wasn't always the case.

To the OP, I'm sure they're cranking out as many as they can. They're obviously selling but I doubt they were expecting this big a demand.

Probably true, and the demand is due to the price-point. It's a "poor guy's" next-best-thing to a $3K-$4K bug-hole maker from GAP.

Ruger's PR allows the buyer to retain enough cash to buy and mount a proper, high quality optic and a bipod. Then he can enter the long-range precision game and start to develop a competitive skill-set with a reasonably tight shooting rifle.

As a dealer, I've had one of every caliber on backorder since they first came out and have yet to receive a single one. The bigger dealers are getting first dibs, so the small dealers may not be seeing any for a while.
