I fired my roommate's AMT Hardballer 1911 and was immediately hooked. My first handgun was a SIG P220, which sadly, I sold off to fund a Browning Hi Power MK III in 40 S&W.
In the mid 60s' when I was a wee lad. A family friend used to hunt groundhogs on our farm. He always carried two guns. A scoped 52 Winchester for shots 50 yards and further. Anything under 50 he used a long barreled 22 magnum revolver. Watched him kill a running groundhog with the revolver once. I got to shoot it one evening. Have been hooked on pistols ever since. I tell folks I have three weaknesses. Pocketknives, pistols and redheads!!
I remember playing cowboy or soldier from day one. My dad took me shooting in the mid seventies when I was in third grade or so. That really got me interested. I don't think I was really hooked until I bought a book about guns not much later.
When I got my first "two gun" Hopalong Casidy gun belt and a pair of cap pistols. I sure miss my 100 shooters. Killed a lot of bad guys and indians with them.
