I shoot at public & private, indoor & outdoor ranges.

I usually put guns in my hands before i shoot them. JK, private gun range or friends land. I'm not a fan of TX lack of public land. Seems wrong to me that one person has the right to own acre after acre of unused land as if they created it just bc they're great great grand daddy called dibs.

I bought all my land with my own money, starting poor and with zero land. The USA used to abound, promote, and delight in such opportunity until fairly recently. To whatever extent this no longer exists is purely due to government meddling and the corrosive effects of pop-culture misinformation. I'm 52.

I shoot at indoor ranges because that is all there is around here. How I wish I could shoot in the good old outdoors like I did as a kid. There were three ranges within driving distance. One burned down. I went to my normal range today and it is closed until mid August for renovations. The way the guy said it makes me worry as to what is really going on. I plan on making the drive tomorrow to the last range available.

Private property and inheritance rights are wrong? What would you propose? Government seizure of land for make bigger your land comrade? ;)

Most people don't inherit their land, they work there you know what off and buy it. Bring yourself up, not others down.

Im fortunate to have a little 40acre place in the country,so Ive been working on my range for the last five years.nothing fancy,I have a 200 yrd.rifle lane and
a 50 yrd pistol range set up with a half dozen steel plates and IDPA type targets.Theres 3miles of woods between me and the next homestead beyound
my range. In the winter I hang my steel at 10,15,20 and 40yds from my deck.
I have tarps fastened to 2x6's and I set these on the deck rails to catch my brass,It beats wading through 3'of snow to the back range.

"Private property and inheritance rights are wrong? What would you propose? Government seizure of land for make bigger your land comrade?"

What i propose is a reasonable balance. So states that have public land for public use, other than a few parks here and there, are communist? I have no problem with people having reasonably sized tracts for personal use but giant ranches and other properties that cover square mile after square mile where no other person can use the land i have an issue with. So people without access to large tracts of land have no ability to shoot a weapon without paying someone and that is american? One should not have to pay thousands of dollars just to hunt a deer.

I'm not reffering to the suburbs.

i voted "other" we live in an area that has neighbors to close to shoot. and the closest "range" is about an hour away. there is a spot in the woods (USFS land), 5 minutes from our house that people have been shooting there for years. so we go there to shoot.

Not if they bought the land fair and square, instead of forcing it's sale through eminent domain law.

People may have to pay to use other people's private property as they have no right to it, except in a handful of occasions like road easement. Those land owners have a right to charge money for people use the land they own in most cases if they so choose. That is American.

Neither am I. I still don't understand what exactly you want to do about those greedy land owners.

I shoot mostly at the Medford Rifle and Pistol Club's indoor range. $50 per year membership fees and about two miles away. I also use the Jackson County public range which is also close by.

Iblong, since when did political persuasion and age matter when we're talking about gun ownership?
On that same note, Justin, they did kind of buy that land at some point, it is kinda theirs.

Back on topic though I am kinda shocked to see that other states don't let you shoot on public land or don't have it. Large publicly available land I always thought were a staple ...

"JustinJ. Im currious as to your age and political persuation,But I bet I can guess."
Actually i bet you cant. I know its convenient to lump everybody you disagree with into one simple category but the world doesn't work that way.

As i said, I don't agree with TX land policy and its affect on my ability to shoot my guns where i feel i should is part of that. But, this has gotten completely off topic of the board. If anybody would like to discuss please feel free to msg me.

Sorry guys, but I just dont understand the logic of people that feel that there entitled to use someones property and its not fair that they own it.
If you want it save your money and buy some.

I'm really trying hard here to stay on topic but it's kind of hard when people are putting words in your mouth. If you actually read what i wrote, my objection is to a government selling off all public land to private individuals. I did not say people should be able to use someone elses private property without their consent. I said i don't like a system where the only option some people have to shoot a gun or go hunting is to pay another person. You can disagree with me all you want but please do not put words in my mouth. Like i said, msg me if you want to discuss.

I travel during the week for work. Normally I shoot on Mondays and Wednesdays at Various indoor ranges, depends on where I am that week. I shoot at the family farm on weekends....

I belong to a few of the many sportsmen's clubs here in Pennsylvania, and I shoot at them. Mine has both indoor and outdoor facilities.

For me, it's not just a place to shoot my guns. It's a place where I meet and make friends, and find people like me that I simply enjoy hanging out with. On Thursday night IDPA practice, sometimes I shoot, sometimes I don't. Last night I just hung out with the fellas and enjoyed the company.

Private land is certainly nice. But to me, the value in a membership club is being around other shooters. We have hunter's education, and training schools conducting classes here at the property. We mentor the young and new gun owners, and have activities that hone the skills of the seasoned ones. I can go smoke my pipe, or the occasional cigar, and enjoy the fellowship of people I met through the club that I call my friends. As a bonus, I have nice facilities to shoot on for a very low annual fee.

Sometimes I pity those who only shoot on private land. I can say, without any doubt or reservation, that I am a better shooter, and even a better person, because of the people I've met through the years at my local gun club.
