Palmetto has been out of business for a very long time. If you procure one, parts are basically non-existent. It has been said that some Pietta parts can be fitted, but that is a long shot.

What are your guys opinion on the brass frame models. Are they ok for target shooting

They always shoot loose where the arbor fits into the frame (open tops).
If you like brass get a Pietta Spiller & Burr.
The recoil forces are distributed around the solid frame.

I believe the price for the Pietta Pepperbox is as low as it is because very few folks want them and they probably have several in inventory. It is another Pietta anomaly.

While the Pietta pepperbox is not the norm, it is kind of appealing.
It just isn't what the public wants right now.
Had an Italian company introduced one of these in the heyday of BP replicas (1970s and 1980s) they would probably have sold like hotcakes.
Today the market is different and buyers just want the basics of 1851 Navies, 1860 Armies, and 1858 Remingtons for the most parts.
It's fortunate that CAS came along or the market for cap & ball revolvers might be much less.

Pietta tries to give folks a reason to buy another gun. ;)
Many folks have experimented making snake loads with their revolvers, and the Pepperbox should be able to be used for that.
Hovey Smith also loaded it with a conical, and with patched round balls instead of bare balls which shows that it's versatile.
Although the Pepperbox is difficult to load, he used a loading press to make it easier.
From what I understand the Pepperbox can still accommodate an 1851 barrel and cylinder.
If that's true and someone didn't already have an 1851, then it could possibly become a convertible gun.
Below is a new 0:38 video of it uploaded less than a month ago.

The Pepperbox arbor is too short, no wedge slot, and no barrel locating pins on the frame.

Last I checked the nearest Cabelas had a good stock. [Garner,NC]. Figured out why. They will not ship and do not have them on display. Why,I do not know. Guess they would rather sell higher price modern stuff. Pal got a 1858 Remington that the trigger/hand? spring broke after only a 100 or so shots. All the internals had black hard fouling maybe from Triple 777 ?

1) If that is Cabelas attitude it seems like a good reason not to buy from them.

2) I own a Pietta Remington and mine is excellent in every way. No breakages of springs at all.
However, the trigger & bolt spring is the most likely spring to break in any SA revolver.
Pietta does have a reputation for broken springs on some batches of guns even after limited use.
Apparently the heat treaters that they use can't do the job consistently right.

3) Triple 7 is scary stuff. High velocity and recoil for equal volumes of BP.
Save it for in-line modern muzzleloaders where you can scrub through the bore.

I'll say it again and again. Pyrodex and every other BP substitute is crap for traditional guns.
Don't use it.
Use GOEX or a premium BP and actually enjoy the hobby of black powder shooting.

Covid-19 must have hit Northern Italy hard as most US dealers I know of show their inventories as out-of-stock/back order/no back order. That is telling.

Start looking on GB and other sites if you really want a revolver for your collection/use. The time for price negotiation is long gone as the supply has virtually dried up.

I will continue to post any revolvers of decent condition from any source for forum members to peruse that I find. My "mad money" account is depleted so I will not be acquiring/bidding upon anything I post.

Brave New World.

Jim

There was a Pietta press release on April 14, 2020 directed to the American public stating that their factory had reopened under Covid precautions.
But if the workforce is not at full strength then production would be lower.

Pietta resumes operations after Coronavirus outbreak in Italy

"...Pietta is proud to have already reopened their manufacturing facilities and they look forward to supplying the American people with what they want and need...." --->>> https://www.lsonews.com/pietta-resumes-operations-after-coronavirus-outbreak-in-italy/

Well, it has been over a month since the last post here and the outlook is still gloomy insofar as BP revolvers are concerned.

DGW seems to have a few of the popular items in stock. EMF, Old South, Midway, S&S seem to have bare shelves. Cabela's seems to no longer sell them online.

Taylor's and Cimarron have some but at the usual inflated prices.

It seems to me that Pietta and Uberti have really not resumed anywhere close to normal production based upon this.

Anyone else have similar thoughts?

Regards,

Jim
