I want one...can we order it from factory with FFL? I'd expect in the $700+ range.

Yes, you can order from the factory. If you have inquired through the e-mail address given on the website, you are on a notification list that will result in you being directed to the new e-commerce site when it goes live. You will be asked to provide your FFL before we can ship product to you.

Thanks for bringing this to market, as a former engineer who is tired of guns that are all more or less the same, this kind of innovation makes the gun market exciting

Any possibility of getting an email announcement list going so we can subscribe and get updates? I am looking forward to this gun in any version. Hope you are keeping it simple and not worrying about slide lock and other features not needed in a pocket gun.

Rounded, or better yet recessed sights would have been nice (a la Mauser HSc) particularly with a laser option.

I hope you are also thinking in terms of full sized pistols assuming the XR9 is successful.

What is the production pistol going to me made from? Alloy frame/steel slide?

I dont know if you guys saw, but the the boberg site has been updated. It sounds like they are legally able to start producing receivers now. Take a look, hopefully theyll have a better idea of when these things will be available now.

OK so the poll is closed but I'm going on record as voting for the larger gun for first release; I mean were talking a 4" barrel here folks! An extra 1/2" or so in length is not going to make a difference for concealment and it should make it more accurate and easier to shoot. I would also like to see production in a light weight material rather than steel.

I got to the poll late, but I'd vote for the shortest lightest gun possible, as long as I can shoot 100 rounds a month through it without it "wearing out".

I would have voted for the longer one with the rail intact. If someone really hates the rail give them a tube of JB weld in a matching color :p

I like the idea of the internal laser I would prefer to have a means of zeroing it to my point of aim unlike some other integral lasers. I'd also want a fully off switch on it.

It's an interesting design. I blogged about your pistol and had someone crap their "perfessionul obswervation" that the "2000 g forces on the bullet would rip a hole in the space time continuum killing us allllllllllll" paraphrased of course.

I am not a fan of the 9mm but will still be interested in the larger version when available. I will also be interested in the .45 and larger calibers.

I spoke with Arne Boberg via email recently, and he said that the current price estimate is $850. Actually, he said that's the "target introductory price," so presumably it'll start there and then go down. I'd hope that it could eventually settle in the $600 range. To hope for anything lower in today's market seems pretty naive to me.

He also informed me that the gun can be ordered with a left-handed mag release, which is certainly welcome news to a lefty like myself! It won't be reversible, but I would assume that the part could be ordered and dropped in relatively easily, if you needed to switch back and forth for some reason.

...Well, can't argue with those lines. Beautiful!

Also, Has anyone else noticed the similarities in between the Boberg and the Kel Tec RFB? Both use a tilting "claw" to either feed or extract, and both have the last-round hold-open dilemma (in the RFB, the the last empty case is still held when the action locks open).

Just imagine a bullpup that uses both of these systems in conjunction! Super, super short and completely ambidextrous!

...thinking about it...I would have the barrel go another 3" back (over the magazine).

I can't see how to vote, but I'm hoping you'll produce the 4.2 incher first.

Like a dummy I thought that two months for the poll was enough time - I should have made it two years...

The long version (XR9F), even though it is .85" longer than the Shorty, is my personal favorite since I like long barrels. It sounds like a "pocket rifle" at the range...

We will be releasing that version some time after the XR9S (Shorty). Even though the two designs share all but 5 parts, we still need to put the XR9F through several months of testing before we can release it.

Will the 4.9'' barrel version ("XR92") come after that, or will an extended barrel just be released as an option for the XR9F?

Any mock-ups of the extended frame in an "XR92"?

I would have voted for the standard size. It is small enough. I don't see the point in "ruining" a perfectly good 4.9" barrel.

I have done a lot of testing on velocities with 9mm Luger and found that the percentage gain of kinetic energy really falls off after about 4.4". Conversely, the energy really drops off fast if you go below 3.2".

With .357 Sig, however, you have that .40-size larger case acting as a reservoir, which can "feed" a longer barrel with significant benefit. I am guessing that this caliber will be offered in barrels around 5" long.

Our standard full-size will have a 4.2" barrel. Longer barrels will be available as an option or as accessories.

It could have launched last year at an MSRP over $4k, but very few people if any would buy at that level. That business model would involve using conventional machine shops that "peck" away the material to make the parts, which is how most short-run machine shops do it these days. In order to "scoop" away the material, so that the gun can be priced under $1k, an enormous amount of investment of engineering time and tooling fabrication must take place. We still have several more months of this type of work.

Tag for purchase when it drops with a sub-$1k price tag (FWIW I'd like the wee one with polymer frame). :D

Any Updates on the XR9 or XR9Shorty becoming available?

I have been following Boberg for a little while now and am interested in a small but powerful carry weapon.

I have 2 Springfield pistols. XDM 9mm and XD 9mm sub compact.
The sub compact feels to bulky for pocket carry. Too wide.

The XR9 standard size overlay seems smaller in length and height. I assume it is narrower too based on some of the other images I have seen.

How's progress on release?
