Let's see what you guys think. Purely on aesthetics.

Glock 3rd Gen. or SA XD?

Glock, at least the XD doesn't look like it was rough cut from a block of something. And before I get flamed, I've owned several Glock's and liked all of them. But I never bought one of them for their looks. I bought them purely for fucntion and reliabilty. Of course beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

They both have an "only a mother could love them" appeal. I think the Glock is just a little uglier than the tactical and service XD's. However, the XD subcompact is in a class by itself. Man that things ugly. Ugly guns can rock!

XD, at least the Glock has its own original style. Now the XD with it's Glock looking frame, USP looking slide, and grip safety looks like the unholy product of an HK, Glock, and 1911 mating. Add to that, it was a nicer gun when it said HS2000 and cost 269.

I'd have to say Glocks are better looking. Personally, I think they are dead sexy. Glocks at least look like they were built like that. XDs look like the bastard (I mean that in the technical sense, not the obscene sense) child of several other guns. Which, as Navy Joe pointed out, they are.

Well, I have a Glock and I plan on getting an XD later this year so I don't have anything against either of them. That having been said, I think the Glock possesses a certain serious business look to it that makes it attractive in an industrial, Nine Inch Nails sort of way.

The XD doesn't even have that. :p But I'm gonna try one.

Not the most useful thread.

"Ugly"? NEITHER!

OK, so the XD took several of the best features of a few other guns and combined them very nicely into one EXCELLENT gun. That's a BAD thing??? For the competition maybe. Yes, now it costs more than it did when it was imported by HS - but it now has Springfield's service and lifetime warranty behind it - should it ever need it. It's still a bargain - especially when compared to a Glock.

Oh, and the XD frame looks NOTHING like the Glock. The only similarity is that it's made of polymer. Totally different grip angle (thank God), grip texture and shape (no funky finger grooves), much more meaty (and REPLACABLE) slide rails, etc. It does have a trigger safety - like the Glock.

That said... I think they're both GREAT guns. They're both purpose built tools... nobody buys either because they're pretty. Although I think my Bi-Tone XD looks great, I bought it primarily because it's a great PERFORMING gun at a good price. I guarantee you that if some of you hardcore Glockers would stop feeling all threatened and defensive and just give the XD an objective chance - and I mean actually LOOK at it, HOLD it, and SHOOT it, you'd like it. A lot. If you haven't done that, you have no basis to bash it.

They're BOTH great guns... get over it.

JPoe,

Useful? No.

But for a little fun and a little rock throwin across each other's respective side of the pond? Yes.

But I noticed you posted the longest response out of everyone and went on and on about the features.

Relax. No one really cares what your gun looks like when the SHTF. Ugly is ugly and when a 1911 owner or Beretta owner calls my Glock 21 ugly. I say "Sure, but it takes care of me like a pit bull" :D Then I pull out my SIG P220ST or P228 to show them I can appreciate good looking pistols too. ;)

I like them both, never owned a Glock yet. I may end up with a Glock 17 because of reliability and the fact that it will have its place is gun history. I do have the XD, but have only had it a short time.
If we want to bash ugly guns, how 'bout the pink Charles Daly .45 I saw at the gun show last weekend. That takes the cake. However it would make a great official gun for the Pink Pistols. LOL.

XD.

Regular Glocks have their own appeal to those who like them, and baby Glocks are downright cute. :)
