I regret to say that I have not joined. That will be changing tomorrow. I can't decide which magazine to get. If I can sweettalk the wife into the extra $10 I'll get both, but If not I am having trouble making a decision. Obviously I like the gun and shooting content of American Rifleman. I am also very interested in the information in America's First Freedom.

Which do you like better? What are the pros and cons of each?

Heh. I like Women's Outlook better'n either of those. :D

DOH! didn't even consider that one. I guess not having the correct body parts shouldn't exclude me from gaining a little insight into women's shooting issues.

Thanks for making my choices more difficult. :D

If I can talk my wife into joining then we can get that one as well.

I get two magazines (well at least I order them). One is always Women's Outlook, the other varies, is currently American Rifleman.

WO has info not usually found in gun magazines and from a new perspective. Usually has recipes or info on handling game in the kitchen that I would like to put to work.

Also, it is a good intro to leave in the doctor's office or wherever.

I subscribe to American Rifleman and America's First Freedom. The latter is sometimes a trifle light on content, but for the grand sum of $10 per year, I certainly don't feel entitled to complain.

I have gotten Rifleman, Hunter and Guardian over the years. My favorite feature (I read it first each month) is the armed citizen.

More problems than magazine choice.

What's with all this "IF I can sweettalk the wife into the extra $10 I'll get both" stuff? And, "IF I can talk my wife into joining then we can get that one as well".

Your problem is not deciding on magazine subscriptions or whether to join the NRA, but rather who runs the house. You da man! Be da man!!!! You own guns and that costs a lot of money. You shoot a lot and that costs money. You own a computer and have internet connection and that costs a lot of money. So BE A MAN!!! Stand up. Join the NRA without her approval. Subscribe to the magazine YOU want. And do it the way I would and have all your NRA mail and the magazine sent to the neighbors house where you can get it without her ever knowing. SHOW HER WHO'S THE BOSS!!!

I would go on with some more advice but my little lady just stuck her head in the door and said I need to get off the computer so she can make a phone call. And I'd better hurry cause she sounds mad about something.

Its only $10/yr to get a second magazine. I go for both First Freedom and Rifleman. Sometimes the articles seem identical, but I still read both cover-to-cover.

I get Hunter, my wife FF. However they both get relegated to the bathroom pile to be occasionally thumbed through if I suddenly have some extra time on my hands :uhoh: . I've found that most of the information in there is usually quite dated (political anyway, the hunting articles haven't changed all that much in the past 20 years). By hanging out here & other online places I'm shocked if I hear of anything new through the magazines (this applies to all print media that comes to the house, not just picking on the NRA here).

For the most part I only get them so that the occasional fence sitter who it over using the facilities has something to read in there :D .

Freedom here. Allthough to tell the truth, I don't really care for any of them.

the approximate breakdown is American Rifleman 1.2+ million; American Hunter - 900+ thousand and First Freedom 300+ thousand. The audit bureau doesn't seem to track Women's Outlook.

NRA member "services"?

Don't get me wrong - I likethe NRA. Been a member for years.

But (there's always a "but") their member "services" seem to have it in for
me: We moved. Wife and I filed change of address - one each. They got
hers. Just dropped my membership cause they ignored mine. (I called them so
I know that is the case.) So I call them (see a few words ago) and renew, change
address again, and magazine (to keep this on-topic). Membership renewal
goes through. Change of address goes through. Magazine? What magazine?

OTOH, with membership "services" like that, I probably would drop NRA if it
weren't required at my gun club.

F'get the magazine - you prolly won't get one anyway...

I get First Freedom, can't say it's a great mag but sometimes I find good info in it.

Rather than pay the $10 for the second mag, sign the wife up. Gets you the second mag for only a few more bucks (and the extra insurance) plus, it puts another member (and woman) on the rolls.

Numbers are a big issue for groups like this. I give memberships for Christmas many years. Gun buddie's love it and it's a great way to torment a liberal

I get First Freedom

Anything you can get in American Rifleman you can also get on The High Road, 1911 Forum, The Firing Line, Pistolsmith Forum, et al.

It seems to me that preserving our Second Amendment rights is the primary issue; what guns you get under it is a dependent matter. :uhoh:

I personally like America's First Freedom though I must admit I've never read American Rifleman.

DWS,
I get American Rifleman and my wife gets Women's Outlook.

I also get a subscription to either Field and Stream or Outdoor Life to satisfy my hunting/fishing interests.

the subscriptions to F&S or Outdoor Life is about $14 a year. Even if you only read three issues, you recoup your cost if you bought them at a newsstand.

I get FF and American Rifleman. Both are pretty good, though most of the information from FF is old by the time I read it. I will probably change FF to Hunter when my renewal is up. I signed up for the e-mail alerts from NRA and GOA, so most of the information found in FF is old news.
