well i've never heard of the SP2022, and the Sig P250c is one of the few SIG pistols in my price range...
Dorkfish - no offense intended. The SP2022 can be had in the same price range as the P250. It is a DA/SA vs the P250 being DA only. That is a big difference to a lot of people. I have one in 9mm and enjoy it. Folks much more knowledgeable and experienced than me have given it highly complimentary reviews. If you can find one to rent I would think you would like it.

Most of the opinions will be from those that shoot their favorites------MINE is a Glock 22. May not be the best 'target' choice, but it does pretty good and shoots a lot better than I do.

SR40 does a great job at managing the recoil of the 40 and they are very accurate.

I've had an M&P 40 since they first came out, out of the box the trigger characteristics were terrible until I installed an Apex "carry" trigger kit. The pull is 4.5 lb, clean and crisp. I now love it. That said I have a 9mm Sig P226 that shoots like a dream as well. Sig is a lot pricier but it's all metal. Either way you can't go wrong. All due respects to a Glock 22, great shooters, I just think they're ugly.

I have both the M&P 40 and the SR40C. If I had to pick just one, it would probably be the M&P, but they both shoot great and are far more accurate than I am at this point. :)

or is there another .40 pistol that falls in the $350-$550 range?
How about a gently used XDm Compact in .40? Includes "the works" in the factory box, two 11 round mags and on 16 round mag plus a Galco OWB holster for $550? AND, you can come down here and try it before you buy it. It's a great gun but I am finding I prefer a DA/SA hammer fired pistol for conceal carry and am looking very hard at the Sig 239. I was going to keep the XDm and add the Sig to the line up but found out this week that my Tax Refund will be $900 lighter than expected due to my son turning 17 last November and I loose the $900 child tax credit so I need to sell one to buy one. :banghead:

PM me if you want to chat.

XD-40 can be had for $399 right now without the "gear". I've had an XD-40 for about... oh, 5 years?... and I just bought and XD-40sc for the aformentioned price (+tax).

I have shot several of the others on your list and I like none better than the XD.

My EDC is a Gen3 Glock G23, a 40 compact. I also got 40-9 conversion and 357 Sig barrels from Lone Wolf Distributing. My gun was new when I got these so I needed to shoot 124g 9mm bullets for a reliable cycle. I now have a case through the G23 and it shoots the 115g 9mm's just fine. Also I had to get 9mm mags for the 9mm ammo of course. The gun with Mep night sights and taxes was just over $500 purchased through GSSF. The LWD barrels were about $110 each, come with a life time warranty and can shoot lead. I made no other mods and shoot three calibers for about $700.

This is a sweet shooting gun in all three calibers. It's also easy to hide. I did a paper shoot this week with the 9mm and had a great time.

+1 on the M&P - the best feeling and best firing .40 I have ever shot. Although I am biased as I own one. Bought mine when they first came out - they were under $500 then, can barely find for less than that anymore. Also came with a bigger hard case and a $50 rebate or two extra mags. Haven't seen that in a while from S&W - and I've been checking.

PX4 is nice - much more aggressive recoil then M&P in my opinion. But, it has a rotating barrel which I like.

I'd take the 2022 over the 250 as well. I have heard and seen nothing but problems with the 250 and you can p/u a 2022 for less. Used by many law enforcement agencies throughout the world.

So, in order:

1. M&P
2. PX4
3. 2022

Springfield Armory XDM .40 Compact

I've been seriously thinking of getting a SA XDM .40C. I have a G27 and like it. I just wanted to have a different compact .40. And after looking at a lot of others.
I think the SA XDM is the best choice.
Do any of the members here have a SA XDM .40C?
Thanks for any pros or cons.

BCMjUnKiE - I really like the XDMs. I have shot the competition model 9mm at my local range several times - extremely accurate. Sweet pistol, 5.25" barrel, bright sights, and a HUGE mag. Springfield cut away some of the slide to speed up the cycling in this model. Plus the XDMs come with all sorts of goodies.

I am looking at picking up the following guns, the XDM 9mm is on my list for the range due to the comfortable shooting and accuracy:

1. HK 2000 9MM or USPc 45 or HKc 45
2. XDM 9mm Competition
3. Stoeger Cougar 9MM
4. Kimber Ultra Carry
5. Sig 229 Enhanced Elite

I just bought a xdm5.25 40. I fell in love with it after the first 10 rounds. Have put a little over 500 rounds through it not a hiccup It will be a tack driver for me with more trigger time. Simply put it is a great shooter. JMHO

I'm definitely not an expert or a great shot but I love my PPQ. Here is a quick video of me shooting it for only the second time. The only other handgun that I have is a Smith and Wesson 9mm. The PPQ's trigger is just plain awesome. I can't compare the recoil to another .40 but I didn't think this was bad. I haven't had one single issue with this so far but I've also only shot 400 rds through it.

I was about 20 yards from the targets and I had my best run the only time I was filmed. :)
