I have a Sig P239 in .40 S&W that I absolutely love however, it is a rare barcoded T&E gun. Lately I have been considering buying another P239 to use as a range and carry gun. While I have multiple 1911s and AR15s (of different manufacturors and sizes) this would be the first duplicate make and model I own. The problem is that my gut tells me to buy something I already have is a waste when there are so many different guns on the market to buy. This lead me to wonder what other think about duplicate firearms.

2 Remington 550's
2 SAR-1's
2 P7M13's
2 CZ-52's

Depends on your motivation whether it makes sense. I have 2 P7M13's b/c that is my carry gun. If one goes down, I have another until the primary is fixed. The others I got duplicates for my twin sons. That worked fine until I had a third son last year. :uhoh:

Now I need to work on getting 3 of everything.

i don't understand the poll...

i have a lot of remington 700's. of the 700's, i have at least doubles in 22-250, 25-06, 7 rem mag, and 7 rum. of the doubles, i have bdl's w/ duplicate chamberings in 25-06, and 7 rem mag.

in handguns, i have duplicate 1911's - so obviously the 45 is duplicated. i have several 40's, but none are the same brand...

in shotguns, i have multiple 12's and 20's...

what was the question again?

If I own both a 38 and 357 does that count? What if they were made by different manufacturers but are the same style? A 357 is a very strong 38 for all practical purposes. What if a family member has a gun just like mine (same make and model) does that count? Very confusing poll:confused:

C'Mon guys, cut him a break.

The basic question is, do you have more than one of the exact same gun?

A Remington 700 in .308 is not the same as 7mm. Having two Remington 700's in 7mm is a duplicate.

A Colt 1911 is not the same as a Kimber 1911. Two Colt Series 70's are the same.

I am sorry that the poll is confusing to some. My main point was to see how many people own EXACT copies of the same gun. That is what I intended "same make and model" to mean. I guess it didn't pop into my mind that the same make and model of a gun can be offered in different sizes (full/compact/subcompact) and calibers. For example, an HK USP comes in fullsize or compact and the Sig P239 is offered in 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 Sig.

For the sake of this pole, I would consider any difference what so ever to be "same make but different model" and "same sake same model" to be exact copies of one another. As I said, I am looking to see how many people own exact copies of the same gun. For example, 2 or more Fullsize HK USPs both in .45acp. I could quite easily justify spending money on differences like size and/or caliber. What I am loking for is how to justify spending money on the exact same gun I already have.

In CAS we need matched pairs of revolvers. Therefore I have a matched pair of .45 Colt EMF/Uberti Hartfords and just ordered a pair of .357mag EMF/Uberti Marshals.

2 east german Maks.... will likely have 2 1911's from various makers and working on 2 garands

Not so much of a "I wanna have twins" as it is the guns that I usually like are older and getting harder to find so I stock up while I can.

Depends on the gun but I do have a pair of my favorites and I wouldn't mind having duplicates of some others (like another mossberg 12 gauge).
One thing that I have to consider is that I still like to stay mobile. Even when I find something worth having two of I still don't necessarily want two because that means that when I move I have to move two.

Also, in the event of SHTF, all I would be doing is leaving a very functional weapon behind for someone else to use. At the least it is a waste of money that could be used for something else and at the worst it would be leaving a weapon that could be used against me. IMO, in some cases, it would make better sense to just have some spare parts around.

I have 2 for of my CCW gun (2 PM9s) and of my competition gun (2 S&W 1911s). I have 3 G19s as my former CCW gun (now I'm trying to reduce this to 1).

Had two identical Glock 27's but sold one so I just have my new Glock 22 and 1 27 at this point as far as Glocks go. I am saving to buy myself a pair of S&W M&P pistols in 40S&W as my carry guns. My Glock's will work till then though and if I get bored I can always carry my Beretta 92fs Brigadier INOX, or my S&W model 745 if I want a .45 acp, or my new 2 3/4 inch barell Taurus M627 7 shot .357 with one extra HKS 7 shot speedloader with 125 grain .357 gold dot and one with Ranger T .38spl +P+, or if I want to go mouse gun theres my Sig P230, so I am definitely good for now and thats good because I am also saving for a new HDTV which I am going to pick up before any further additions to my gun or knife collection. Now Accessories is another story altogether.:) :D

ok... yes, i have doubles. a few, anyway, but only rifles - and most of those would be remington 700 bdl's. also have doubles w/ the 700 lss, and 700 lvsf.

in handguns, i haven't quite been able to talk myself into buying the same exact gun again.

No duplicate guns for me,i own 4 S&W's
and 1 Charter arms revolvers. They all
operate the same and thats close enough
for me.But i would love to have more 3"
K and N frames in my collection.

I have duplicates, but not exact copies..ie., Beretta 92 Centurion & inox 92fs., and several HK USPs from compact to Expert ;)

I have 2 CZ52's, both of the weapons were manufacutured in 1953. Each weapon has a SN difference of 1,379. However, the weapon with the latest S/N has been updated with new smooth maple hand grips, a Harris Compitition FP, a 16.5# barrel spring, a new thumb slide release, and a new universal holster with spare magazine pouch. The one with the earliest S/N is being kept completly stock. So yes, I have duplicates, but the duplicates aren't exactly the same. The "updated" CZ52 is used for a shooter/carry. The stock one is being kept for an investment. Oh yeah, the decockers work on both pistols, so that's a plus, (and they should, I paid upwards of $170 for each pistol). :)
