Who here is a Kimber 1911 fan?

I have owned several Kimber's....Custom II, TLE, TLE/RL, TLE II customized by Wilson Combat, Pro Carry II, Warrior II, RaptorII and finally a Gold Combat II (on it's way).... I truly love them. They are generally very accurate out of the box. The triggers are very nice and they are pleasing to the eye. I have sent 2 back to Kimber...1 was a faulty night sight. The other was FTF. Both fixed and they have run excelllent.
I have owned 2 Wilson KZ-45's Both again very accurate out for the box.
I have owned 1 Les Baer PII.....very,very accurate at any distance up to 50yds and probably alittle more. It is a beautiful gun. But it sat in my safe. To me it was more of a target gun. I reallydidn't want to change out the adjustable sights to fixed and have it dehorned and refinished thus I traded it for the Kimber Gold Combat. I am sure many of you think I am silly for doing so.
Lastly, I owned a Springfield Loaded Light Weight 2 tone. Beautiful looking 1911, but I didn't like the trigger and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it. In all fairness I really didn't give it any chance and trade it at a loss. (I do that way to frequently).

Down the road I want to try Nighthawks, STI's, Colt's and a Full House Custom's. And even down the road perhaps build my own. Oh can't forget Dan Wesson and S&W 1911's
Bottom line is I guess I have been lucky with my Kimbers. In my humble opinion they are some of the finest 1911's for the buck.

Regards
Bill

I don't have a big collection. All I know is that my .45 ACP Glock broke three times and gave me lots of opportunities to practice recovering from FTFs, double-feeds, and FTEs. My Kimber Custom II has never failed to feed, fire, or eject through thousands of rounds fired. Just one man's experience, but its all that I need to hear.

I have nothing but admiration for my Kimber. It was my first handgun purchase made on my 21st b-day. It has taken all the abuse that my brothers and myself can dish out. i have seen it run 1000 rounds of wolf ammo in a day and keep on going. It bears the marks of all my ham handed gunsmithing including the famed idiot scratch. I am the idiot! It has given me more pleasure and reassurance than any one firearm in the stable. I hear that Kimbers have gone downhill in the last few years. That may be but I am still trying to wear out my first.

Nobody ever has or ever will hear me say anything good about Kimber.

I have had the pleasure of getting my hands on 4 of them...all 4 were terrible...the only thing worse than the performance of the guns was the customer service.

Got my Warrior a while back in a trade deal. I don't know about its previous life before it came to live with me but it has been 100% reliable and super accurate since I adopted it. Maybe mine just loves me? :D

I have a Kimber TLE II in Stainless and love it, my gun shop guy really knows his stuff and when I called and asked for quotes on different 1911's, I told him I was looking for something in the $1100 range from Colt, Springfield, Para or Kimber and he made it very clear that a Kimber was the way to go and I never looked back.

I do have one issue with the guns, the plastic MSH and MIM parts. Why is there plastic on a 1911??? Smith & Alexander and Ed Brown make nice aluminum drop in MSH, I'm going to get one with a magwell. As for the MIM parts, some have issues, most do not. I may switch out my safety and hammer for some Wilson Combat or Ed Brown parts....

By the way, this thing is ridiculously accurate.

I like my Tactical Custom II. Bought it used, and so far the only problem I have had was 1 time trying out a new type of JHP ammunition--and it was a mag problem, to boot. It's a great value, and will shoot a clustered, ragged group at about 10 yards when I want it to. My only complaint is with disassembly due to the Schwarzer system.

FWIW, the only "reliability" complaints I consistantly hear about with Kimbers is the 3" models, which doesn't surprise me one bit; mess with the design, and you're heading into new territory!

And, gun porn! :D

I bought Wilson Combat magazines before even shooting my Kimber UCII (or my Colt Commander) once. A lot of the problems associated with Kimbers (and most 1911s) are magazine-related failures. Kimber especially is known to supply crappy factory magazines with their high-quality guns.

CPshooter,

It's a fact and a dog-gone shame Kimber mags are not as good as the pistol they were intended to feed. I have used the Wilson 47D, and the even better (IMHO) C. McCormick Shooting Stars with great results in my Kimber.

I also think if you reload, and you don't use the Lee FCD die, you'll have problems. Kimber's tend to run tight chambers and the Lee 4th stage sizer/Factory Crimp die absolutely fixed the occassional FTF in my Kimber. Have not had a single bobble using the Lee 4-die set.

Also found that any case made by A-merc is FTF waiting to happen in practically any .45 auto.

A few issues with my UCII. My FP safety, wouldn't always release, but the hammer would drop, resulting in a click no bang. Easily fixed, by cleaning under the rear sight. Another annoying issue was with early slide lock, which removing some material off the slide release fixed. I carry mine with no reservations, its the tightest 1911 I've owned, and spot on accurate, and never jamed. I could have returned it to Kimber, but I enjoy working on guns. I dont feel I should have had to fix it, but out of spec stuff gets out, and I didn't pay $2500 for it either, or even $700 :p

well so far no issues on mine

neither my Ultra Carry CDP, Eclipse II, Classic, Target, Ultra Carry 9mmClassic 38 Super, SIS, TLE and my Pro Carry have functioned flawlessly.

but then again my 4 Colts are all sold and gone and good rittance to all of them. They got me started in the 1911's but I soon saw the light, I saw the light, doom dark and gloominess Colts all gone!

jamomatic paid 830 for mine at a gunshow will never buy one again
accurate though yes i clean my guns at least once a week even if i dont go to the range, though the low pressure rounds my friend loaded seemed to do fine if not better than the factory loads. it seems to be a two way street with these either get a good one or a jamomatic.

I have a Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II and I really love it. First time I took it to the range, though, it failed to feed the hollow points that I bought for it.

Since then I've fired nothing but target rounds and it's operated flawlessly. In a week or two when I've broken it in even more I will try hollow points in it again.

I also sent it back to Kimber to put tactical wedge night sights on it and the customer service was outstanding.

Another attorney in my office has carried a Kimber Ultra Carry II as his main CCW for four years and has had no problems with his whatsoever.

So far, I really like Kimber and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Smart move.

Though this:

Frightens me somewhat. A lawyer with his head on right? What's the world coming to? :D

lol. If an evil-doer decides to make his way up to the 7th floor of my building, he's in for a rude awakening and interlocking fields of fire.

I'm in a corner office and I am armed at all times.

Another partner has the other corner office and he is armed at all times.

In the office next to mine, the attorney just bought an H&K 9mm and brings it to the office.

Finally, four offices down is a senior associate and she is armed at all times.

:D:D:D:D:D

A year or so ago, just a block away, a disgruntled litigant walked into a law office and killed a lawyer. He terrorized the entire 20+ attorney law firm for awhile before he went outside and killed himself as he was surrounded by police.

It could have been MUCH worse as no one in that firm was armed. :uhoh:

That ain't going to happen where I work.

The only Kimber I've ever owned is an Ultra Covert that I bought from a friend. Its never had a FTF or FTE in the 600 or so rounds I've put through it. Great little gun.

Have a Kimber Custom II - thousands for trouble free rounds...great pistol and very accurate.

I would not hesitate to buy another Kimber.

pro covert

I have the pro covert with crimson trace grips. Nice shooting accurate pistol. Mine doesn't like fmj ammo tho. Feeds hollow points all day long.

UCII (EE) ~ P.O.S.
Warrior ~ Decent gun but not what I expected it to be
UC Raptor ~ (IE) Great with FMJ, not with JHP

I have a Clackamas custom that has seen thousands of rounds. It now has a fiber front sight with a bomar rear. The stock trigger with a 19lb. mainspring weighs in at a crisp 3lbs. It still runs like a top after over 10 years that I have had it. Mark

That's a pretty crazy story! That's why I love the internet...I'm always reading stuff that reminds me why carrying a gun is so important. There are so many people on this earth, and a lot of them are guiltless psychopaths. You never know when one of them is coming your way. I think it's only a matter of time before I experience something crazy like that. At least I'll be ready!

Anyways, thanks for the reminder! Stay safe!
