In the past two days I've bought a jennings J22, and a FIE titan .25acp. I spent $105 for both of them. I've put 25 or 30 rounds through the titan, and probably 60-70 rounds through the jennings. The titan has yet to have a malfunction. The jennings has had two jams, and a few other times it didn't feed the first round because the round wasn't sitting at the right angle to feed (poor mag design for rimmed ammo maybe?). Accuracy from both of them was good enough for close range plinking, and more than adequate for SD. (I have no plans of ever carrying either though, I carry a keltec .32).

Anyway, I have always heard nothing but negative comments about most of the old saturday night specials, and while I'm sure some of it was well deserved, I wouldn't hesitate to pack either of these little pot metal wonder guns if it was all I had.

Obviously I haven't put enough rounds through either to say that they're good guns, but I don't consider any $40 gun that shoots more often than it jams to be a piece of crap.

So, of all the >$100 handguns out there, I was curious what brand y'all think is the best.

P.S. Neither Hi-point or keltec fall under this category, so don't mention them. (Keltecs are over $100, and hi-points are good, reliable guns for the money, despite what all the people who have never owned or shot one say).

HI-Point. I don't care what you say they meet your specs better than anything. Also, I'm highly offended that you mentioned Kel-Tec in the same post as the others.

Other than HI Point, I've never shot any SNS. Sometime you can still find them for about $100, so don't rule them out yet.

I owned two C9 before and they were reliable, accurate enough for me. However, once I own other higher quality pistols, their service were no longer needed.

He said Kel-Tec didn't fall under that category. Meaning not junk guns. I would consider them more like "value" guns. Not top of the line by a long shot but good enough to work properly.

Oh, and I vote for the Nagant revolver, PA-63, maybe an old Iver Johnson or something like that.

cz 52's are cheap. firing a powerful little 30cal round too. it does have a bit of recoil, and the grip isn't very comfy, but it is reliable.

also HK copied this pistol's roller bar recoil mechanism in it's mp5 machine guns.

You can't compare those to the crap the OP is talking about.

I certainly agree that they are all much better than Jennings, etc. I was just going off the OPs parameters:

So, of all the *>$100 handguns out there, I was curious what brand y'all think is the best.
* I'm assuming he means < (less than)

Not anymore. They are also much harder to find lately as stocks have dried up. CZ only made 250,000 of them from 1952-1954.
also HK copied this pistol's roller bar recoil mechanism in it's mp5 machine guns.
And CZ designers Jan and Jaroslav Kratochvíl copied it from the German MG-42.

Right on!

Oldnoob stated (regarding HiPoint guns):

My feelings exactly about HiPoint guns. Even so, I do keep a C9 in my truck as a "knock around" weapon... :D

Corner Pocket

Smith and Wesson gets my vote. If you want cheap crap in an auto and the Smith don't suit you, go with Kimber. Kel Tec is high quality by comparison.....:neener:

Actually, to be serious about this, of the zinc guns, I have reasons to like the Phoenix Arms HP22. Mostly it involves accuracy, but if you have to send it back (I did), they have a lifetime warranty and the turn around is quick.

Just be prepared to buy a lot of recoil springs. They remind me of a ball point pen spring. But, the damned thing is AMAZING how accurate it is. I don't quite understand that because the barrel flops around on the frame like the friggin' clapper in a bell. Weird. I don't carry this thing for self defense, of course, but it makes a great kit gun while fishing or a fit in your pocket, accurate enough to take a rabbit at 25 yards hiking companion. I wouldn't use any zinc gun for anything serious.

I think it's funny:
Suggest a Cobra Arms CA-32 or a Jimenez JA-32 and people laugh, but do they stand that far below the non INOX Beretta 32?
Ruger LCR, and flame cutting... Answer: Carry it a lot and shoot it a little, but does the Cobra Shadow catch the same break?
Shall I even start the list of company recalls... companies that I am constantly being reminded are quality?
I think it's funny because everyone is so quick to yell "pot metal" junk. I have investment cast aluminum pans, so is your AR made from "pot metal" now?
Same people who want to invest time and money to perform rack tap bang drills by buying snap caps to mix into their ammunition, but happen to be the same guys crying when their gun malfs once!

There are other reasons to not carry a bryco type gun than material of construction. I don't like striker fired guns, would only think about carrying one condition three, nothing chambered, for safety reasons. They tend to be inaccurate even if you can make one work.

I had a Davis P380 for a while that was both accurate and reliable with the proper loads. It was heavy as a boat anchor and I got rid of it after a while, but it did function well. Still, I would only carry it chamber empty. I simply don't trust cheap striker fired guns to be safe to carry with a fully cocked striker.

I had an RG26, cheap zinc striker fired .25 auto that I carried back when carry was a class A misdemeanor in this state. It ran off a knife wielding mugger once, so it paid to have it on me THAT day. It was reliable, but I couldn't hit crap past 10 feet with it. It was better than nothing and if I'd had to toss it in the bay, I wouldn't have cried over it. I now have a CCW and can choose higher quality guns. I can also afford higher quality now days. I mean, I ain't carrying a custom 1911, but 300-400 dollar guns ain't that big a stretch. There's lots of decent quality in that price range.

I have 3 FIE Titan 25's in storage and they all functioned flawlessly with FMJ and Winchester Expanding Point over the years. Probably a little less than two hundred rounds or so through each. Of course, they are now unused and relegated to an annual trip to the range for grins.

Also had the Taurus and Beretta 25's with the tip-up barrels. Both were ok but the Taurus had a rougher feel. Again, I would not recommend anyone carry one of these when lighter, smaller, & better designed 32's, 380's & 9mm's are out there.
