Who Still ACTIVELY Shoots the .30-06?

My go to rifle is my remington 721 in 30-06. It just fits me, and the 30-06 has done anything I wanted a rifle cartridge to do. My wife is a .270 fan, but I stick with the thirty ought.

Like many other people I have a Savage 110. Haven't been too the range in a while but even when shooting often would rather shoot my 30-06 and 22lr than get a different centerfire cartridge.

When I'm going into the deer woods, 9 out of 10 times I've got my Weatherby Vanguard in .30-06 with me. Every now and then, I'll take the wife's tang safety Ruger M77 in .243 just to change it up a bit.

I've tried to passive-aggressively shoot mine, but that didn't work out too well.

(I've been trying to not post that for 2 days now, but I just had to.)

Had a fine day at the range Tuesday. M1 Garand got 9 en-blocs run thru it. While I have three other rifle calibers now, there were a few more in the locker.
I'm down to just .30'06, 5.56x45, and 7.62x39. Springfield has my love and attention most range trips.

I use several calibers but highly rated for me are my Remington 742 and Savage 110, both in 30.06. My first deer many years ago was with my 03 A3, of course in 30.06.

I picked up a 1903 last year, cleaned it up and hit the range. The rifle is so much fun to shoot that now the .50 has to beg me to shoot it. I can't believe how accurate the rifle is, using the peep sight it drills any Target I point it at. I haven't tested it out as far as setting up a Target to see what it will do but so far it dead on.

The serial number puts it at 1933, great rifle and awesome shooter. One day I'll have an M1 to go with it, hopefully that will be this year. Reloading for it is a must, better ammo really makes it shine.

I have a beautifl Browning BAR .30'06 that I seldom shoot simply because there's no point in busting ammot downrange...it's fun to shoot a magazine or two, then put away.
Actually, come to think of it, I don't shoot ANY of my guns "excessively," and by excessively I mean going to a range and just busting caps on pieces of paper...basically wasting ammo and money.

I use one for a varmint gun at times....110 gr. V-Max at a models 3000 fps.

Pre-64 Model 70 in .30-06, with both a 3-9 Leupold and a 2-7 Leupold, both zeroed and set up with Pilkington QD mounts, with a flip-up aperature rear sight on the rear scope mount for no-scope shooting when needed, is the one rifle I would take if I had to use it and nothing else to hunt with for the rest of my life.

From Alaska to African Plains-Game it does it all. Handloading is the key, and no other cartridge is as flexible or universally available.

Best $125 I ever spent. In 1970... :)

I have a Remington 700 BDL in .30-06; does so well with 165 grain Remington Core-Lokts that I've not taken time to work up any other loads yet. But I must confess, it doesn't get much use. My go-to hunting rifle is a Model 7 in .308. Where I hunt most frequently, the carbine-length .308 edges out the .30-06. But I agree that every safe should have at least one ought-six.

Yep

Got my first taste of high power shooting CMP qualifying matches with a club supplied M1. Then I got my own CMP Springfield Armory, Korean vintage. I put it away for a while when I joined the IL ARNG HP rifle team.........shot a heavy barrel, heavy target stocked M14. I've since retired. I recently dug out the M1, and "rediscovered" about 500+ round of once fired LC brass. I invested in 2000 150 gr pulls, and I'm now enjoying the old warhorse again.

Shoot my M1 Garand regularly. I also have a Sears Model 52 branded Winchester m70 in 30.06. I'd like to get someone to shoot it for me since my eyes don't do so good anymore.

As a kid it was the rem.700 in 06 that was my dads. When it was time to get my own I went with the rem. 721 in 06. Best rifle I ever bought. When it comes to no nonsense tag filling that's what I reach for.

Are you certain your Sears rifle is a model 52 and not a 53?

The model 52 rifles were made from 1954-1959 and were built on the Sako L-46 short action...or so I think.

The model 53 Sears rifles were built on Winchester model 70 (post '64) action.

Here is my model 53...one of my favorite hunting rifles.

I love my 30-06. Shot an elk with it this last Christmas day. What a present.

My dad has been shooting elk for thirty years with a Remington 700 in 30-06. I couldn't think of a better all-around cartridge for the North American continent.

The Badlander rifle, something good, something solid, it'll work and you can afford it. The rifle for everyman.
