Why all the Bond love?

I thought the Bond Arms derringers looked really cool... until I saw one in person. The fit and finish were great but the thing was MASSIVE! Nothing that I would ever carry.

The Double Tap two barrel pistol always intrigued me mainly for how thin it is. I shot the 9mm version and didn't find the recoil excessive. I would want the .45 acp version though.

I have a Double Tap 45 and the recoil is painful to say the least. I’m not a recoil sensitive guy but that one hurts. It’s not so much the recoil as the fact that is all absorbed in the web of the hand. I’ve let a lot of people shoot it, almost no one shoots it twice.
If you’re really interested in one I’d advise you to look into the ammo issues. Apparently they are extremely picky, they literally come with a fully page of instructions for ammo that works and ammo to avoid. I think it’s available on their website as well. I’ve never personally had any problems but I’ve only ever shot WWB and Gold Dots in mine.

As to the OP when I have questions like yours I sum it up to the fact that marketing works, people don’t like to hear that but we’re all guilty of being lured in by marketing.

Over the last 40+ years I’ve owned several derringers and typically loose money on them when I’ve traded them off, but there’s something almost mystical about the way they grab my attention and interest. I’d like to have a Bond 45/410 but every time I pick one up I can’t help but think that if I miss twice, I still have a hefty chunk of stainless to throw at who or whatever the assailant is …
However, probably a couple decades ago I picked up a High Standard derringer in 22 mag, and it’s the only one that I’ve kept.

built like a brick outhouse.
different calibers on same platform eases what to self-gift for a birthday and eases ammo scrounging.
doesn’t print.
removable trigger-guard for easier gloved hand use on winter walks.
expensive niche piece.
backup piece in same caliber as main carry handgun.

I'm considering a new Bond Arms in 22LR or 22 WMR for grins and giggles.
I just took delivery of a Bond Stinger Honey B in 22 LR (3” barrel) Bond Ranger II in 357 Mag (4” barrel).

The Ranger II will accept the other Bond barrels that I have.

I think I’ll use the Stinger for a coup-de-gras gun for when I trap a raccoon or opossum (nasty animals). I currently use my Single-Six or an S&W Model 317.

If the short 22 LR barrel is not effective I can try the 327 Fed Mag barrel or the 357 Mag barrel on one of the other frames.

The Ranger II came with a belt holster. I might try that when bush hogging in the fields. Use the 4” .410/45Colt barrel with .410 shells.

i had a b.a. stinger in 22lr. its geometry in my hand never felt right, even after swapping grips, so it’s gone, ymmv. 22lr is really pleasant shooting but, rimfire fanboy that i am, i am unsure of its usefulness in a b.a. derringer other than just plinking fun. for any serious 22lr work, e,g. trapping, i would stick to something with 6+ rounds, e.g. a ruger, heritage or diamondback gen2 single action revolver. i had a s&w 317 too, its alloy cylinder would consistently heat-bind by 50 range rounds. it seemed too dainty for field use, i grew to mistrust it and away it went. hopefully ymmv here too.

380acp barrel is a nice choice for a b.a. derringer: relatively soft recoil, meaningful power, relatively cheap/available ammo. i would like my 327mag barrel more if 32long ammo were easily available at a happy price. my humble advice on 410 ammo in a b.a. derringer is to only use handgun-specific ammo: your hand and wrist will think kindly of you.

From shooting skeet competitively, I have lots of .410-2-1/2" ammunition. In the .410/45 Colt 4" Snake Slayer or the longer 6" .410/45 Colt barrels, it is quite manageable to shoot.

Still, it is a relatively short range combination.

See Post 29 for my Bond collection.
