Why are primers scarce by Powder Valley

Thank you, Walkalong!

The article is quite interesting. Between the foriegn producers not in the supply chain as they were last time. To Remington going through their bankruptcy issues.

But you don't have to worry about me trying to grab 'em up, I have enough from the feast years. :D

Anyone have info why some of the foreign manufacturers aren't taking advantage of this? They didn't really gain market share the last time, but they could charge a premium, make a killing and we would be grateful for it

S+B stopped selling primers here a while back, I believe they can still import them if they wanted to.

From Powder Valley
With import restrictions out of Russia, we do not anticipate seeing the help we had from them in 2008-2012

I believe Tula and Wolf got blocked by import restrictions a while back (but I may be mistaken) so no primers from Russia this time around.:(

I imagine they’ll show up eventually. Deals like that require a number of hoops to jump through before they hit retailers shelves. Of course that’s assuming Covid hasn’t hampered supply elsewhere.

I think that these are just two of many reasons. Election year, the virus, and many more reasons for the shortage. Let's not forget record new gun owners and shooters who are having problems getting or just can't get factory ammo and are turning to reloading, thus creating more demand.

Add to all this the manufacture's are running at capacity and aren't increasing that capacity and the shortage happens.

IMO this is also a part of the problem, as well as foreign factory's probably focusing on making ammo rather than just making components.

I still have tens of thousands of S&B, Tula and Wolf primers in addition to Winchester, CCI, Federal and Remington. The time to buy reloading components is when you see a bargain. Wait until you need them and you may learn a hard lesson about supply and demand.

I think one of my professors wrote that...he was the kind of guy that thought something like. “More people want them than the number in existence.”, would be too simplistic.

I think he got kick backs from the stationary store though...
