The term "straw purchase" is not usually used in conjunction with private sales, but yeah, it's the same idea.

Yet she was never prosecuted. Private party sale, no 4473 to perjure yourself on, hence no crime committed. They tried to prosecute, but technically, she broke no laws. Perfectly legal to sell long guns to a minor.
