I've got some tactical stuff. Other guns of mine are kept very traditional. Some are bubba'd, cobbled together from bits and pieces of other guns, some are as pure as the day they shipped from the factory.

If a heat shield and a red dot on my HD shotgun makes me a tactifool, then so be it. I like it, I have a purpose for it, and who cares how I spend my money? Now somethings are just excessive and silly, like pistol bayonets, but some people like them. Their money, their choice. Show me an effective use for it, I might strap one on.

as has been said, tactical isn't a tool set, it's a mindset. A marlin 30/30 lever action with a 4 power scope is a great tactical rifle for deer hunting.

The military budget has grown over time because war has become disproportionately more expensive. Back in the day, such as in WW2, the standard infantry weapon was the same as any bog standard rifle you could get at a store. They also didn't have things like JDAM, cruise missiles, ICBM's, computerized anything, or anything that had to be made through super secret processes.
Explaining why I own a gun never goes down well with those who refuse to understand. They simply will refuse to accept the idea that safety cannot be guaranteed.

Thanks for proving my point...all that "new fangled" technology that's so expensive these days is the exact thing that so many are condemning. According to them, we don't need any of this new stuff...just send'em out with an old carbine and some training and that's all they need for every situation....that's asinine and arrogant thinking that could easily get you killed. If there's an advantage of ANY kind in a life or death situation be it in war or someone breaking into my home in the middle of the night...then why not take it?
