Why the 357 Sig Glock 32 is my current carry choice.

160 feet per second is all but meaningless

That's the difference in your 357 hst load vs 124 +p gold dots from a g19, your golden saber ammo is not a shining example of 9x19's potential

There's nothing in the real world that a 12x grain .355" bullet won't do that adding a mere 160fps will make it do.

357 sig's claim to fame was that it replicates light 357 mag loads when they were fired from a 4" service revolver. It's never caught on because you know what else does that? Modern 9mm loads

Like I said I WAS on the sig bandwagon too. But after awhile I came to realize that the "big three" (or 2.5) are tops for a reason.

Using my example:
Glock 32:
Federal HST 125 gr. @ 1,358 fps / 512# KE
Glock 19:
Golden Saber 124 gr. +P @ 1,152 fps / 365# KE
There is a 200 fps / 147# KE difference in 9mm +P and 357 Sig from my pistols with 4'' barrels, seems worthwhile (meaningful) to me.

Speer advertises:
380 Gold Dot @ 1,040 fps / 216# KE
9mm Gold Dot @ 1,210 fps / 374# KE
That is a 170 fps / 158# KE difference.
I think that there would be a meaningful real world performance difference in those .35 bullets given that 170 fps / 158# KE difference.
The 380 is regarded as marginal whereas the 9mm is generally deemed sufficient for SD - over that "meaningless" ;) amount of difference in power.

Not that the 357 Sig is a bad choice but using KE is a real poor way to judge performance, momentum is much better for predicting terminal performance.

Glock 19:
Golden Saber 124 gr. +P @ 1,152 fps / 365# KE / PF 143
Momentum of .63

Glock 32:
Federal HST 125 gr. @ 1,358 fps / 512# KE / PF 170
Momentum of .75

Glock 23:
Federal Hydra-Shok 180 gr. @ 969 fps / 375# KE / PF 174
Momentum of .77

When I calculate the momentum for loads I've already posted, the 357 Sig fares very well.

Which is why I said it's not a bad choice;)
I love the ballistics of the 357 sig having been a 38 super owner since the early 90s when it saw it's resurgance in the action games. I always thought the concept was kinda funny of trying to get 357 mag ballistics in an auto for LEO when part of the concept of the 357 was to give LEO the penetration characteristics of the 38 super in their service revolvers.
