A Sierra Vista radiologist died after what appears to be an accidental shooting Friday at his home, police said.
Dr. Gary Forsberg, 61, was shot in the upper body when he and his wife were handling the gun, according to a news release from Tracy Grady, a Sierra Vista police officer.
Beverly Forsberg called 911 to report the shooting, and her husband was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Police are continuing to investigate the shooting, and the case will be forwarded to the Cochise County Attorney's Office, Grady wrote.

One news-source I saw last night indicated that he had asked the wife to hand him the gun and, being a deadly gun, went off unexpectedly.

Sounded very fishy to me.

Unless she offed the doc, sounds like an ND.

I wish the press would report the make/model/caliber of guns in incidents in the news. 14.gif

Yeah, no kidding. If they don't tell us which guns are shooting people, how will we know what not to buy?

Seriously, I'd like to know what it was too.

I am always skeptical when it comes to ND reports with thin details...

This one may fall into the all-too-convienent catagory with reports like "man accidentally shoots pregnant underage girlfriend"

Was she familiar with firearms or did she do the rookie trick of wrapping her finger around the trigger. It could be an accident caused by ignorance of safety rules or she might have been a little irritated with him for some reason. We may never know but if she remarries the new husband probably won't allow guns in the house.

all i can say is good luck to the lady.

I wouldn't worry about her too much! The preacher's wife who purposefully shot her husband in the back with a shotgun only did 3 months and is out now. So much for only having one side of the story.

Sounds like a great case of plausable deniability. Who in their right mind would as someone to hand them a loaded weapon? I think this Doc was either a moron or there was a great cover on the wifes part.

I would like to share my motto with everyone:

"Stupid people shouldnt breathe! If I die of a lack of oxygen when I'm older, I'm gonna be totally p!ssed." :scrutiny:

I think perhaps the famously thin and flimsy reporting is a combination of several factors.
1. In the rush to be the first to file a story, reporters use second hand facts from the last on scene leo who has the unlucky detail of holding back the press. this info is then extrapolated and stretched to fill a 30 sec on air spot.
2. Stories are kept on the light side to prevent a civil libel or deffamation lawsuit.

I've been trying to find more details on this particular incident, so far, it seems that the media's ADHD has been preventing any sort of followup. :(

This is the latest info that I can find in the press:

I know this family and it's a horrible tragedy. And this article seems strange to me - they are hearing stories constantly? I am not an AZ resident and am not familiar with their papers or reporting but I don't remember ever reading that sort of quote in any other case so it really seems strange.

I found this forum doing a search for this specific story and registered because I'm hoping that someone on this forum is in the area and can give offer some insight in regard to what the general public opinion is in this situation.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know...

I think it more likely that the local investigating PD is the choke point for information that could be reported on by the media. It's only been 3 days, so we just have to wait.

It's a good media story-- love, death, a gun, mystery.... I'd guess the media would love to report on it.

I think the wife was having an affair and her radiologist husband saw right through her. So to cover it up, she grabbed a gun and shot. Indoors at such close range, it must have made one ultrasound and scared the PET. Fortunately, the vet declared the feline healthy after a quick cat scan.

Cases like this are never black and white so it will be interesting to see what develops. I hope the increased exposure prevents this from happening again.

Ironic considering intimate contact with lead on a daily basis usually keeps him safe.

I can assure you, she was NOT having an affair. She loved her husband and often said he was the best thing that ever happened to her.

I know you were jesting, just thought that I would throw that out there in case anyone has been wondering. Also, there has been mention that she 'off'd' her husband so I just wanted to clarify that she loved her husband very much.

And excuse my ignorance, but what does ND stand for?

Doesn't it seem odd to anyone else that the investigator mentioned that he has been continuously getting calls and hearing stories? Don't you think that's almost unprofessional for him to make a statement like that? It's as if he's opening up the field for people to begin speculating ... not as if people aren't already doing that, but again, I'm a newshound and I've never read a quote of that sort on any type of investigation.

Just my two cents.

ND = negligent discharge

AD = accidental discharge

Don't ask which this is or what the differences between the two are or you will start a huge debate akin to "Which is better, a 9mm or .45ACP?" When it comes down to it, they both refer to a gun going off when no one really intended it to.

What do you think happens in these kinds of cases? Everyone thinks they have a crucial picture of the puzzle and want to tell it to the cops.

No way to tell at this juncture. Could be an unintentional shooting. Could be she wanted out. Could be he wanted out and she didn't. For all we know aliens might have descended from on high and done it.

I bet she gets the best attorney for 100 miles in any direction and he does her talking.

I'd like to know how much and when the life insurance policies were made for him. Can you say motive?
