The oddest finish, anyway....

is the fully case hardened pistol I saw recently, either here or on 1911 forums.

Not bad, but rather odd to my eyes.

By the way, gold is a very functional finish for a sidearm. It wears well (think of all the replacement teeth out there) and just flat does not corrode.

My favorite is the old Smith & Wesson deep blue. And I'm partial to scroll engraving. Gotta have wood grips.

Well... my wife's Kimber will be falling into this category. Stainlees Custom we're picking up used: she wants purple Dye Stickygrips (paintballers will know what I'm talking about). Shouldn't be TOO gaudy...

Well, Dye Stickies are nice but i don't think they make purple. Even if they do, beg her to reconsider-- those things wouldn't even look good on paintball guns

SoCal: They make 'em in clear, and they WILL take dye (in proper solution. The local shop owner knows how). However, I'm going to have to trim them into ordinary grip panels: she doesn't like wrap-arounds, but DOES want purple grips. Hey... it's an attractive woman who wants a 1911: who am *I* to argue minor details?

Something I've always wanted to see was a rifle/shotgun/1911 with the classic "Tobacco Sunburst" finish as seen on Fender, Gibson, et al. guitars.

I'd do it to my AK but I'm not sure of the materials used...
