Wildest Gun Trades, Anybody?

Hate to trade or sell any guns, but this was an exception. After 20 years of looking for a mint Win 52B Sporter, finally found the gun of my dreams. Quite a chunk for it. Probably gave too much....traded this engraved Belgium Superposed plus 4 figures in cash to get it. No regrets....

Once traded a Sauer Drilling, 12 Ga over 30.06, with a claw mounted scope. I purchased it in Germany in the early 1980's for about $1200 and had the claw mounts and scope added for about another $500.....the exchange rate was very good in 1984.

Anyway, I traded it a KC gun show for $2,000 cash and new S&W Model 36 and a new Ruger Red Label 20 Ga.

Most of the time I get my ass handed to me in gun show trades, but that guy really wanted that drilling.

Gun trade

I watched a guy come in to a Indoor shooting range in Kansas city to trade in some guns.

He brought in 3 guns
DPMS ar-15 .223
44mag Desert Eagle
GSG .22 MP5 clone

He traded them all for a 500.00 Ak-47 and 1000 rounds of surplus 7.62 x 39
They ripped this guy off and needless to say never said anything to hi about it. Who knows it was just not good business in my opinion.

Traded a Finnish Mosin with the wrong sling, correct cleaning rod and no oiler or cleaning kit for a early Russian SKS with the correct cleaning kit and sling, I had to kick in 50 bucks I think, and this was post-election. I am glad he wanted that old bolt action rifle, I always wanted a real Russian:evil:

I traded a bunch of old toys nothing fancy to a guy down the street. They were some old bug toys I played with as a kid for a German Luger. Saw the same toys on E-bay later that year for 47$.

For $135, I bought my buddies Remington 11-87 Special Purpose with a 23" rifled barrel and 3-9 Simmons scope and a 26" regular barrel, also came with a hard case. Sold the package for $700. Built an Ar-15 with $500 of that. Then traded the rifle for a mint 1995 Ford Bronco with 90,000 miles on it.

I have found that most dealers have particular guns they like/dislike, just like anyone else. One local dealer I know hates Beretta 92 pistols and will allow next to nothing on trade. He had a like new one a few years ago that was priced dirt cheap. I had a perfectly serviceable Beretta, that was a good shooter but a little rough. I knew better than to ask about a trade, so I drove across town to another dealer who allowed me an even trade on a Ruger P-90. Took the Ruger back to the 1st dealer who traded me even on the Beretta. Took about an hour and a gallon of gas to trade a beat up pistol on an identical, but perfect pistol.

i traded 5 gallons of gas helping a lady move with my truck for a S&W model 19. i told her what it was worth but she insisted. i asked if she wanted some lube with this deal because she was getting screwed. she politly declined with a wink, I i later hooked up with her, trying to help her get back in the game as it was. She was HOT and 13 years older than me:)

he had the right to say no. im not seeing how it was bad buisness really.

at my shop, i alway give the customer the first shot at proping a deal. for instance, a guy comes in with a Springfield Loaded and a Bersa Thunder 380. the SAI is too heavy, the Bersa is too small. he ASKS can he trade even up for both for an XDM 40. sure...

even better...SAI custom shop 9mm #4 of 150 made, Weatherby sas with fiber sights, and a USP 9mm nib...guy comes in and want to trade it all for a bow. is he ripping himself off, uh...ya. is that bad buisness on my part? really?

Not sure if this counts, but I traded a Jennings .22 auto pistol for a Pentax SLR camera with two lenses (1x telephoto) & set of filters.

I traded a tricked out Remington 870 12ga 18.5" tactical for a Fox Sterlingworth shotgun that the owner was contemplating chopping down for HD. The condition of the Fox is about 85% and the best appraisal was $1,500

there is trade and there is fairtrade

there is moral and there is immoral

....bonedust--had i been in your shop at the same time as him i would 1) never return to your shop again and be sure to tell everyone i know what a rip off i observed there; and 2) i would have clued the dude as to what he was holding was worth. if it soured your 'deal'---good. and if he still went with you than its like a fool and his $ is soon parted but at least he had a clue.
it is good to seize an opportunity. but an opportunist will eventually meet someone smarter than themselves. end rant

asked another way--a unknowledgeable widow comes to your pawn/coin/gun shop with a one ounce $50.00 US gold eagle. do you tell her that it says $50 DOLLARS on it and offer her that amount or do you say that gold is trading at xxx and i'll give you that less a fee of $25.00 and 4%? its your business but which is the honest way to conduct it?

My dad traded a bringback M1 Carbine he carried in Vietnam for a recurve bow when I was 4.

Ouch.

I traded a CMP Winchester Garand to a friend for a nice FN 49 and $300 cash.

I think we came out about even, more or less.

I traded a Romanian WASR for my '78 Dodge Aspen T-top coupe, traded a 2nd gen. Glock 22 for my '84 Honda Interceptor 750, and dropped a 700 ADL .30-06 + Ruger Vaquero .44 Mag. for my '87 Cherokee Chief.

Of course I had to put time and money into the vehicles, but I definitely came out ahead in the end.

A gun-trading-fool of an uncle of mine once traded 9 rifles for 7 just to get one he wanted. This was back in the late '50s and he's slowed down some, but is always looking.

I don't even like trading off one gun, but because he did it all the time I was lucky to be able to shoot a huge number of different models when I was a kid.

Sometimes I just get the fever and make less than desirable trades just to get what I want at the time.

I think the worst trade was a mint 1964 Python for a douglas barreled Model 70 in 264 Win Mag.

I was getting ready for a Coues deer hunt in AZ and expected cross canyon shots--ended up taking my deer at 25 yards and that 264 tore the crap out of the meat at that range.

i guess when you can put yourself in my customers shoes and properly calculated what they consider 'worth' to be, then and only then do you have a valid point. keep in mind that by uninvitedly stepping into another mans conversation you yourself become the opportunist...

no customer has yet ot leave my establishment unhappy with service or care. just because you feel its wrong...doesnt make it wrong. what you want is what everyone should want? youve been hanging around the Dems too long...

My dad just traded a compound bow that he didn't know how to use properly for a 38 special that he is pretty handy with. That was a pretty awesome trade in my book.

He also got a Browning BDA 380 at a garage sale for $200. And an old Marlin tube fed .22lr for $20 that looked like hell, but now that I cleaned it up for him it looks beautiful and functions flawlessly.

OOOO... I just remembered. I got an old Savage 12 guage pump shotgun for $30. it was missing the magazine tube and some internal parts. I happened to have a parts Savage 12 guage at home that had the parts that this one was missing, so I ended up with a fully functional 12 guage pump shotgun for $30! It's actually pretty nice. And the price was just right.

I put together a CMMG AR-15 (16" M4 style) for about $900, post 11/05/08. I guess that's a pretty good deal, too.

I had a Kimber Eclipse that I thought was too pretty to use. So I traded it for a Sig 226 with the DAK trigger. Turns out I hate the DAK trigger, so I traded it for a 226 with DA/SA trigger. Being as nothing holds a candle to my beloved 1911's, I later sold the Sig for about $400 (don't remember exactly). So I basically sold my Eclipse for 400 bucks, plus I lost out all the gas and time on the trading. I shoulda just kept the Kimber and shot the heck out of it. :(

I traded a nudie magazine for a Stevens over and under 22./410. when I was a kid to my cousin.:what:
And a Jolly Roger flag for a single shot Savage 22. to my friend when I was younger
Problem is my friends don't do them kinda trades anymore!!:banghead::neener:

My wife (girlfriend then) gave me a cherry Winchester M1917 WW1 rifle for my first Christmas gift from her. This was the last straw, at that point I knew she was the right girl. Yes, she had help (from her brother), but she had the whole package to go with the gun, it was just the icing on the cake. So.....I guess I could say I traded my bachelorhood for a battle rifle.;)

PS....I still have the girl and the rifle.....GREAT TRADE!!!
