Wildest Gun Trades, Anybody?

I just traded a xd 9mm plus some cash for a like new Springfield "loaded" 1911 in 9mm. I was in the store when the original owner traded it outright for a glock :what:. I had several thousand rounds through the xd and got what I felt was a really good price on it. Plus I really "needed" a 1911 in 9mm:D

Traded a used Glock 21 for a new Sig P220. I was also told that capacity was the reason. For some reason I never felt deprived.

I traded a POS 71 Ford pickup that didn't have six square inches of straight sheet metal( or six square inches of contigous paint) for a Mini 14. I bought the truck for $75 and took parts I wanted first. The second best was a Weatherby 7mm mag for a furnace. I don't know what I'll ever use it for but the guy needed heat and knew I am a shooter.

I traded a Smith & Wesson made Walther PPK + $100 for a 2nd Generation Colt Detective Special with a bobbed hammer and a red ramp front sight.

Might be a little steep but I really wanted that Colt and I hadn't shot that PPK in over a year.

That Detective Special is my daily carry gun.

Not necessarily wild, but it does qualify as "smart"......

I'm at the range ringing out a brand new Springfield Armroy Loaded stainless and this guy is standing behind me while it run a few mags through it. He just keeps standing there... clolse enough that it began to make me a bit uncomfortable.

So, I turn around to face him (gun made safe and laying on the bench at this point of course) and the guy looks at me and says "I always wanted one of those". "A 1911" I asked? He says yes, but I don't have that kind of money right now.

I say "well they're $600 all day at just about any gun shop" (this was in 2000). He says "all I've got is an old cowboy gun I got from my dad and I don't really care for it".

So..... I'm thinking "old cowboy gun, huh....hmmm..."

How about we meet up sometime and I'll take a look at it and see if we can make a deal I say.

He says O.K.

A couple of weeks later he calls me to say he's in my area and has the gun with him. I tell him where to meet me and he shows up with a complete "rig". I can see the grip sticking out of the holster and it's definately a single action.

"Can I take a look" I ask? I ease the gun out and sure 'nuff, it's an SAA.

"Well, I like your cowboy gun", I said. Do you want to trade it for that stainless Springer? He agrees.

I end up with a 2nd Generation (1962) Colt SAA 7.5" .357 mag in about 95% AND a really nice Bianchi rig.

Oh, and it has appreciated in value very nicely in the last 9 yrs. too!

I traded a colonial 20 shilling note for a primo, unadulterated 1961 Ruger Single Six. The guy who traded it swore that the .22 LR cylinder was lost for decades. I found out later, after I had it for a few days, that it wasn't a convertible at all. It said Magnum Model; I wasn't even looking for a Single Six as I prefer double actions. I got really lucky.

Love the Ruger Single Six platform. I lucked into a 9" barrel Super Single Six Convertible .22/.22mag (got both cylinders) for $175 a couple of years ago. It's about 98% condition and was made in 1977.

The guy I bought it from was trying to "unload" a few guns for cash at a gun store while I was there. I quickly herded him outside so we could talk and explained to him that he would be lucky to get 70% of the value of his guns by dumping them off on a dealer. If I hadn't said anything, he would have gotten royally ripped off.

Besides the Single Six, he also sold me a Winchester Model '97. It turned out good for both of us!

4 guns, money, and a tv set for 2 guns, a roll of wire, and a horse! Don't ask it would take to long to explain.

A friend of mine gave me his Mossberg Slugster in exchange for a Cold Steel Trailmaster. I traded that gun for another Mossberg 500 with extended magazine and Surefire railed forearm plus cash. I have a buddy in TX right now for work for another month or so. When he gets back I am swapping him for his Ruger Redhawk in .44mag. Not too wild, really. Just some good damn deals. And the best thing about it is everyone I have/am going to trade with is happy with the deals. Win win all around.

The very best trade I ever made....

I traded a mini 14 stainless, factory folding stock, for ........Get this..... A select fire Imgram m10 .45. I told the guy he was making a bad trade, and he told me the 200.00 tax transfer, was more than he paid for the gun, in 1972....his wife didn't want it in the house anymore..

I felt kinda bad, and when he brought me the transfer form, I gave him a Blackhawk .44 that I had, He tried to pay me for it.:(....

I've had several.

Bought a mint pre angle-eject Win94 for $225, took it and traded it for a nice FAL.
Bought a STI Trojan for $600, traded it for a Benelli SBE on here, traded IT for an AR10.

Traded a model 10 SW for a Browning HP mkIII seller had for $350.

Octagon barreled Winchester 1894 (ca 1906) in 32 Win Spl, in about 90% condition for a mostly worn out SBH 44 Magnum.

Actually, the Winchester was a gift. I felt bad and gifted the SBH to my friend.

Best trades

Back in '73 when 23 channel CB's were strong I traded one for a S&W model 10 - 38 special (w/holster) and a 2nd one for a Winchester model 94 30-30 (w/case) LN. Still have both and have never fired the 94.
