Wow!

Although I am not surprised at GlockGirl4 issues with getting a pistol permit in this state. I am still amazed at the difference from county to county. In Dutchess county I was told when I got my permit they only give out unrestricted carry permits. I didn't even have to take a safety course. Someday I will get to leave this place, as long as there is a job where I am going.

If you are found to be carrying a handgun in New York City with a pistol permit issued from elsewhere in New York State, you will be arrested and charged with possessing an unregistered handgun. I believe the only exceptions are retired police officers, as defined in the New York State Penal Law, who reside outside the five counties that comprise New York City. I'm not sure about other counties, but Columbia County permits state, "If issued outside New York City, not valid to carry a weapon in New York City unless approved by the police commissioner of that city". By the way, it gets worse. In New York City, rifles and shotguns since 1968 require registration. It is a violation of the New York City Administrative Code to possess an unregistered rifle or shotgun in New York City. You will be issued a summons and the firearm will be confiscated. If the rifle or shotgun is loaded, you will be arrested.

No updates havent got the permit in the mail yet...wonder how long that will take lol.
i dont know why the judge clerk i got decided to give me grief about my application.
for the record in case anyone was wondering.. i had a very clean background check.. dont even have a point on my license and never have!!!!
I did just move to niagara county from erie county 3yrs ago.. dont know if that made a difference.

my fiance has his permit from catt.county from the nice older lady as someone mentioned... he has had it over 25yrs.. no problems..
so who knows... i just want to be able to shoot at the range and carry concealed, but since i cant carry concealed at least i get to shoot whenever if i ever get it in the mail.

going to go to the rochester gun show this weekend.. thanks ihatesnow for telling me it was this weekend.. looking forward to going... i will get to look at all the new stuff they have out.. :)

I very seldom find any real good deals at the gun show in Rochester on firearms although it is fun to look around. a few good deals on other items .
I find Buffalo Gun Center has very fair pricing and a great selection . If I need something specific I usually go to BGC right in your back yard from Niagara .

1) All firearms you registered needed to have a spent casing supplied to for the NY Ballistics database (this was a touch difficult since you wern't technically allowed to transport the firearm after you moved to NY, or discharge it in your home (obviously) so I was unsure where to get the casings.

How about just pick one up and the range and say it's from your gun? Sounds like these jokers would never be any the wiser.

In New York State, only the purchases of new hand guns require the gun dealer to submit the gun to the NYS ballistics lab where it is fired to obtain a spent casing. If the gun's manufacturer supplies a spent casing with the handgun, I believe the gun dealer only has to submit the casing and related information. Purchases of used hand guns are exempt from this procedure.

Man, I sympathize with you GlockGirl. Hang in there!! Maybe with Heller going our way, these types of draconian gun laws will be overruled!!

Never even had a point on your driver's license and you are going through all this?! This is absolutely ridiculous.

I have to stop. It ain't healthy for a man my age to get this riled up.:mad::mad:

I'm going to email your Senators, etc., and tell them to get rid of these stupid rules. I know, Schumer, Clanton and your Gov. probably won't listen but too bad, they're going to get a mouthful from me.:mad::mad:

Edit: Here's the messages I just emailed for you GlockGirl:

I've been reading up on your gun laws and want to let you know your State's gun laws are overly restrictive and should be repealed.

The procedures for obtaining handguns are particularly disturbing considering the recent Supreme Court decision in Heller, supra.

Please repeal these unconstitutional laws immediately and enact laws that allow law abiding citizens to easily purchase firearms for self defense and to guard against tyranny.

Thank you for your time.
GlockGirl, let me know your State Senator and State Representative. I'll email them also.

I'm so happy I'm a son of the south, my southern ancestors have always been gun-toting freedom loving folk and my Irish ancestors(my Dad's side) were lucky enough to get drafted during the Civil war, first getting off the boat in New York, fighting the Confederacy and turning carpetbagger after. I guess they figured it was safer to guerilla fight the Klan in Arkansas than stay and live in New York.

Florida is almost perfect when it comes to gun laws. We just need a permit for open carry and I'd never have a further complaint, okay maybe being able to carry in bars so long as you're not drunk.

Here, you turn 21, do the three day wait and background check, you've got your handgun regardless of caliber or capacity. Want a Conceal Carry Permit, take the two hour class at nine in the morning for $50 or get ripped off at the gun show for $140, send in your information for another $120 and wait sixty days, they do nothing to rush it to you and you always have to wait 60 days for some reason but hey, I can't really complain. You have to renew every five years and so long as you renew prior to sixty days before your permit expires you don't have to worry, just keep your nose clean and don't rack up any parking or speeding tickets. Now me and my southern brothers just have to keep them 'Urban' and 'Yankee' types from ruinning it for the rest.
