Most people, me included are stocking up for some bad times. We are in a recession, probably soon a depression, with a very overbearing president possibly on the way, its get 'em while you can.

History does repeat itself

Sounds like 1996 all over again, we sold Colt HBARS left and right "Clinton Threat"

It's general pre-depression spending.

Notice how some stores have added "disaster food kits" and similar to their stock? "1000 meals in a bucket!!!" (You know what I mean.) In the last 1.5 years Costco and Sam's Club have both added various sorts of freeze-dried, powdered, or "other" food (including MREs and the like at times) to their regular rotation. Stores I've been going to since the 1990s that have never had so much as a weather radio before now regularly stock disaster goods.

Gold is also at historic highs (well not really... around 1980 gold was at $850ish per ounce and when you adjust for inflation that would be like $2200/ounce today...but then again there was the start of a recession around 1980 too...)

Anyone who has been in a grocery store or gas station within the last year knows that we've been in a period of double-digit inflation at the retail level. Anyone who has looked at the plumeting dollar knows that keeping their savings in USD (or the stock market) is a losing proposition. Not a comforting situation.

Food, gold, guns... all are comfort items. They are things you can store away and feel a little better about your ability to survive uncertain times.

That's my guess.

Food, gold, guns...

I think silver is a good place to put money, too. Especially for those who may not want to drop $700-800 for one ounce of gold. I think silver is around $17 per ounce lately.

No, more like people are see an economic implosions due to the GOP raping the treasury. 8 years of greed and ignorace has brought this nation to its knees.

"economy is up, and everyone is terrified that the dems will win the white house and subsequently start passing more gun control laws..."

Why haven't I picked up something new? Oh yea, gas prices almost $4 a gallon, home foreclosures and future recession.

Not sure what's going on about folk buying despite the negative factors.

Maybe folks are getting smart?

great to hear, the best way to show support, and keep the rkba alive is to exercise the right to buy and own firearms.

the latest "Outdoor life" issues has an article discussing this as well. They say it is due to recent, more relaxed gun laws having taken affect in some states.

I think it's a combination of the current political climate and the impending economic climate. Prices only seem to go up and the US dollar is going down in value, so it seems to make sense to invest in tangible assests. Guns and ammo certainly fit the bill. Plus, if Hillary gets into the White House there may be some items that simply aren't available to us in the "great unwashed". :banghead:

Maybe people are rediscovering their appreciation of firearms and the 2a?

It could happen...

...It happened to me.

Considering all Democratic candidates stated they wanted to reinstate the AWB during their debate last pm I am not surprised. Although the tide has changed rhetorically. They all stated the 2nd amendment protects an individual right. I think they do not want to look foolish come this spring with the USSC case coming down the pike. They are wrong in supporting the AWB and I belive they know it. Obama also lied in saying he also wanted to make sure the police got to trace guns used in crimes. This they already can do as we know. What Bloomberg wants is ammo for his firvilous law suits. But Obama is either stupid or NUTS. You choose. Hillliary said she realizes licensing and registration are not politically possible. Do I trust them. Heck NO. But the rhetoric was very different.

As 30 cal slob said in number 4 its Tax money, I see this every year in my shops, people with their tax refunds in hand shopping for toys. Its better then Christmas for us.

I think the threat of Hillary is selling a lot of guns. I myself have stocked up on small pistol primers (5000), 357 bullets (3000), and 40 S&W bullets (3000), as well as 10 lbs of Unique. I'll be good to go for awhile.:D I don't plan on buying anymore guns, but the ones I have will be well fed.:D

Actually gold surpassed $900 earlier this week. It dropped back down today to $878 spot price at time of writing. You can keep track of it in realtime here:

You don't have to buy gold in 1oz quantities. They make them in grams (31.1g per troy oz) which makes it more affordable. Silver bested $16.20 earlier but its back at $15.80 spot. Daily prices fluctuate a lot. It's nice to have some precious metals to reduce volatility in your investments. Dollar sucks, metals go up, vice-versa.

I hear rumors of another likely interest rate drop from the treasury. These artificial bandages are only going to work for so long.
