A 60-year-old woman confronted an armed teenager trying to steal her car, wrestled away his gun and shot him in the stomach Tuesday evening outside a Frisco apartment complex, police said.

The 19-year-old was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital. Originally listed in critical condition, he was in stable but guarded condition on Wednesday, police said.

The woman was not injured.

Frisco police Sgt. Gina McFarlin said the woman was getting out of her car about 7:45 p.m. in the 9300 block of Wade Boulevard when the man approached and demanded her keys.

The woman refused, and the man pulled a small handgun. During an ensuing scuffle, the woman gained control of the gun, shot the carjacker once and dropped the weapon. He then picked it off the ground and fled on foot. Police found the man in a nearby apartment complex and recovered the firearm.

Charles Poursoltani was charged with aggravated robbery and bail was set at $100,000.

So is there something to that "they'll take your gun and turn it against you" argument? :p

I just heard about this from a friend whose sister lives in the apartments in front of where this happened.

That wouldn't fly in some states. I recall a while back a guy got stabbed in the stomach, and he pulled out the knife and stabbed his attacker. He was brought up on charges for assaulting an unarmed man. Unarmed, since the attacker left his knife in the poor fellow's gut.

She's lucky she got the gun in the first place

She's luckier that when she dropped the weapon he didn't then use it against her.

I would never relinquish the weapon. I don't know, if I was a 60 yo lady, I may not continue shooting him if he was unarmed, I would have tried to leave the scene to avoid further confrontation, then if he pursued, made a decision what to do next, but I don't understand why she dropped the gun, unless she didn't mean to.

Glad she's ok.

So what can learn from this?

I am nearer age 60 that I am 19.
I was not there, I do not know the 60 year old ladies physical condition, If she has a CCW /CCW license and did not carry for some reason, I do not know her level of training or physical strength/ limits...

1. 19 year attacked quickly and the timing was as she was exiting her vehicle.
2.Mindset. Lady had the mindset to not be a victim/ no more of victim than she was at the moment.
3.Action. Action of lady quicker than reaction of attacker.
4.She survived.

Personally , I am not going to nit-pick the lady, she was there, and survived.

Instead of criticizing her - It is best for me to critique MY mindset, awareness, abilities and learn from this incident.

??? sometimes the good guys,, (or old women) win? What a wonderful concept, I hope the DA sees the defensive nature of this, and does not drive her into bankruptcy or prison over it.

Give her a medal, a ceremony with the mayor, a suitable defensive handgun, and permit to ccw same, and a dinner at denny's for her and all her offspring:)

Another child injured by gunfire.

He was just getting his life together. He had embarked on a capital procurement strategy which would lead to a leveraged opportunity to gain more wealth when a greedy, heartless exploiter stole his only asset and brutalized him with it.

This is the second elderly lady in the DFW area that shot their attacker recently.
Good for them.

This is Texas, not one of the sickening socialists states. The woman will not be charged with anything, except maybe littering the ground with trash.;)

The lady was on TV. She said he had fired a shot. That's when she grabbed the gun.
She didn't say anything about dropping the gun.
The early news reports said it wasn't known if the punk shot himself as they rolled on the ground or the woman pulled the trigger.
On TV the woman said she got the gun away from him and shot him.

Don't mess with Texas grandmothers.
