I have really become attracted to the CZ P01. I've been, almost exclusively, a Glock guy up to this point. I held one on a whim, and it felt really nice in my hand, pointed naturally, and the controls all seemed to be in just the right place.

Recently, I've been wanting to try something new (to me). Instead of another polymer gun, I'd like to try a metal gun...something with a different grip angle, different controls, and a hammer. I've been slowly looking around and have looked at Sig, Beretta, Hi-powers, 1911, and CZ. The P01 has tweaked my fancy the most. It's a 9mm decocker without a manual safety, DA/SA. What are pros and cons of this configuration (besides caliber selection...too many threads on that already ;) )?

I'd like to hear some comments from anyone, especially those that have experience with this particular model (the CZ75 compact is pretty close, I think). I would not be getting rid of all my Glocks, just one (I'll keep the G19 for comparisons). I've read great things about the P01 in reliability tests, but would like some first hand reliability reports. Am I crazy for wanting to "branch out"?

CZ's are GREAT guns. I personally prefer the Cocked and locked option rather than the decocker... but I'm a 1911 man.

The P-01, unlike some decocker models (of other makers) starts from the half-cock notch, and decocks to that position. (It has a firing pin block, so drops, etc., are not a cause of safety concern.)

If you like the look and feel, you can also consider the CZ-75B Compact, in .40, which uses the same frame, but in steel rather than a lighter alloy. (There may be some unresolved issues with the .40 compact mags, however.)

I like the PCR (which is a similar gun, without the frame rails. Its lighter than the 75B compact in 9mm. The PCR has a decocker, while the steel Compact has a steel frame.

They're all good guns that point well.

Love mine. Remarkably accurate and actually softer shooting than my larger CZ 75B.

I'll depart from tradition, and not flood the poor guy with CZ pictures, but instead, simply say, I bet my life on a CZ PO1 every single day, and I have the utmost confidence in it. CZs just plain rock.

I had the CZ 75, but recently sold it to finance something else. Mine was a really good pistol, very accurate and totally dependable. Honestly, it may be the only brand that never (or very very rarely) gets bashed on gun boards. I have yet to talk to a CZ owner (current or former) in person who did not like their CZ.

Buddy of mine carries a P01. He loves it. I've shot it, and think its a pretty damn good compact 9mm. The 22lr conversion kit for it rocks too.

totally off topic: 500th post! Do I win something now ? j/k :)

Please post pics

Please post pictures of your CZ P01!

I had one. Liked it but for the decocker mechanism which involves a very small pin. The DA trigger on mine was rough but I decided not to attempt any work due to the decocker. Scratch the decocker and I'd likely still have the gun.

I would love a P-01 if it just had the traditional DA/SA C&L option of the 75 B and 75 Compact... I think that with the rail would be the perfect home gun...

I loved my PCR's lighter weight, but, for me, a decocker surrenders one of the major attractionsof a CZ, so I sold it. I have two of the heavier 75B Compacts, with their excellent cocked and locked capability. It's too bad CZ doesn't off the latter in an alloy frame.

One CZ-Forum member has a 75B Compact [with safety, rather than decocker] in 9mm with an alloy frame (lighter.)

Don't know where that came from, but its the best of both worlds: light weight and cocked and locked.

The P-01 is my primary carry gun with the CZ 75 Compact .40 being a secondary carry weapon. With the right belt and holster, even the heavier Compact .40 sits comfortable on the hip.

My wife and I switched to P01's a few months ago as our main carry guns. We previously carried various Colt and Springfield 1911's.

The P01 is a fantastic pistol... and at the price point, it's an unbelievable deal.

Buy it, you'll like it!

I had one....

I think they are the most reliable CZs made out of the box. They are also quite accurate - even for a smaller version of the 75. By one that you can handle and try the trigger. If you find one which has a decently smooth DA pull, and the SA is acceptable - get it.

I did not like the DA pull on the ones I had - very rough, and they did not clean up much with dry firing. They are also harder to detail strip than the normal 75B manual safety model. I now have a Compact, but DO think the P01 is a great weapon if you want a decocker.

I cant speak for the P01, but my son has a CZ75D Compact and I have a CZ75BD POLICE and we both think they are great guns. They are accurate and dependable. Being an old revolver guy, the DA trigger pull on both guns could be a little improved but it is not the worst I have ever pulled. With a little practice we were both able to group quite nicely using DA only.

...

Hey armoredman, what caliber is the first CZ with Crimson Trace grips?

I almost went CZ but for my hands, I found them too tough (how there built) to work the slide-action, or manually cock the hammer.

Hope I don't offend anyone, as I did my homework on quality of guns, and CZ was right up there, but as I said, kinda came down to how a shoe fits, and went for a Px4 Beretta Storm 40cal S&W along with a Sig P229R CT 9mm (crimson trace grips) as you did.

Sweet set ups.

Excellent gun there, you have, along with those pics..

I don't like the trigger hurts my finger after a couple hundred quick ones, it seems too rounded and the point of it makes me sore. When I first got the gun a couple years ago it would NOT lock open with the 10 round factory mags, CZ fixed that though;) The gun is freaky accurate though! It won't feed anything like my Beretta 92FS does. It wouldn't feed the 147 grain Spanish ammo the Beretta dotes on, and I have 2000 rounds of (from Y2K! )left. It doesn't like 90 grain Supervels either;)
I keep it loaded next to the bed with an MX-6 light/laser attached loaded with Winchester Ranger 127 grain +p+ which it puts into 1.5" at 25 yards:what: Mine has night sights. For what I use it for the rubber grips are OK. Some times I CCW it in a Maxepedition Fat Boy S type man purse, with a couple of extra mags.
