Well, since bullpups don't seem to be eliciting much interest, how about this...would you buy a Sten-like 9mm carbine?

The pics below are of an actual Sten, so you'll have to use your imagination...picture something along the same lines, but move the magazine well further back towards the trigger assembly to allow a 16" barrel without making the gun too long, use a forward cocking handle with a pushrod to the bolt to eliminate the dirt-catching bolt slot, give it a proper safety and fire from a closed bolt, use a common hi cap pistol magazine...got it in your head?

Same general idea as the thread above, so this wouldn't be a Sten replica, just something in the same spirit. Assuming it was decent quality and reliable, would you buy one of these for say, $300? (vs. a $200 Hi Point 9mm or a $450 Kel-Tec SUB-2000, for example)

I'd like one, but I wouldn't pay more than $150 for one. I know that's not very realistic, but we've all got our limits.

What about a grease gun? There seems to be a niche not filled for a .45 ACP Carbine. Lots of surplpus mags out there. Make it optic adaptable, I think you'd have a winner.

LOL, kfranz, $150 won't even get you a Hi Point.

Yes, 35Rem, .45 ACP would definitely be on the table. The gun would be designed so that the basic receiver, trigger group, stock, etc. could be used for 9mm, .40S&W or .45 ACP just by changing out the barrel, bolt assembly, recoil springs and magazine well.

Not really interested in anything like the STEN design, just something that uses the magazines. I have about a half bajillion of them.

you have some strange obsession with the Sten. its a sub par SMG. and its only benefits is it was cheap.

a Sten is just a straight blow back. there no usefull Sten specific qualities to talk about.

go buy a high point. straight blowback civi legal.

There is a MAC-10/11 clone out there that uses unmodified
STEN magazines. That might be your best bet if you just
want something that takes the mags.

There are also semi-auto STEN guns out there as well. Do a
search for 'semi-auto sten' and get ahold of them.

I would recommend getting a Sten only if it's one of those toys you've always loved and wanted,AND you already have other stuff. I have a buddy with one, and it's about as ergonomic as a tennis racket. It was fun to shoot for nostalgias sake, but i'm not interested in getting one.You can do better.

I wouldn't touch one unless it was dirt cheap . .and by dirt cheap I mean $50 or less. I've shot the real thing and wasn't all that impressed. (althought it was fun to spew brass)

Just my .02

Regards,
Dave

D Max used to make side-magazine pistols and carbines in a slew of different calibers, 9mm, 10mm, and .45 included. Here's a page about someone buying a carbine (with pics) and here's a pic of a pistol.

If they went in production again, they might go for reasonable prices. Right now they're collectors' items though.

(I don't think the D Max that made them is the same folks who made the Maxine and Little Max revolvers. Not sure though.)

Not a chance. The Sten is a pretty awful gun, interesting only as a case study in desperation. I've put a bunch of mags through a MkV Sten, but really wouldn't have any interest in a semi one for more than the cost of a cheap Mosin Nagant.

Probably not.

The High Point is already out there at $200, and besides being ugly as sin, is about as good as you could want for a 9mm carbine.

Why re-invent the wheel, when a perfectly good 9mm carbine for a cheap price is aleady available?

I have a Vector UZI carbine and an Olympic AR-15 in 9mm. They were a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it.
