Sea cucumber? Sea urchin? I don't know, I'll try most things once (and then again, because they're usually tasty).

Oysters (which I love) are probably right up there on the "why did the first person even try?" scale.

It's funny you bring this up, I was watching Temple of Doom last night! They had some weird stuff. Chilled Monkey brains, live baby snakes coming from the freshly slit belly of the female snake or eyeball soup.

Define Weird, a lot of consumers are exposed to more exotic flair today than ever. They even have those restraunts that serve grubs, mealworms etc... Wild (or not so) game is available in most metropolitain areas. About the only thing I haven't seen on a menu somewhere in the US is dog but it is commonplace in other parts of the world.

From an animal perspective Ostrich or Kangaroo I guess.

Bugs is a whole other category.

I had Alligator as a kid....

Funny this comes up. I carpool with a friend who was born in Peru.
I told him this morning that I was looking to go hunting this fall. He asked,
"What you hunt in Virginia"?
"Well, deer, turkey, also small animals like rabbit and squirrel."
"Squirrel? What you do with squirrel?"
"Eat it!"

After a funny look, "Well, I guess I eat dee Guinea Peeg, so maybe you eat dee squirrel."

Alligator isn't that strange, serve it in cajun restaurants around here.

I ate some soft shell turtle, too. I didn't particularly care much for it. Frog legs ain't strange I guess, either, well around here anyway. How about pulling over to an oyster reef in the winter for a snack of raw oysters? I used to carry a bottle of cocktail sauce in my tackle box this time of year when I fished a lot. I just now got my boat going again, but need a trailer before I get too serious about it. Still have my shuckin' knife. :D Makes a good snack when you're out in the bay anyway. Little buggers scream on the way down.

Along those lines, menudo....:barf: Yeah, I was half drunk. I actually ate tripas cold sober in a local restaurant. It wasn't great, either, just had to try it.

Ever watch " Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern " Boy he eats some nasty stuff.

Can't be any worse than watching Les Stroud or Bear Grylles. I have to close my eyes and cringe some times with those two idiots. I'd rather go hungry than eat bugs.

I think the OP intended to get responses along the lines of what the strangest thing you have HUNTED and eaten.

I see we have alot of sea urchin hunters. ;)

probably alligator, but as stated it's not really that uncommon in the south.

Weird eating

BBQ Bat in Lutz Florida at Reds BBQ. One bite was all it took. Wanted too hang upside down all day. :barf:

Balut. Bagoong. Sun dried squid. Fish flavored chewing gum. Fugu. Hu hu. Habu Sake. Cat. Takosu. Uni. Trasi. Dog. Vegemite. Boudin noir. Nutria. Squirrel brains. The worm in Mescale.

There ain't much............
