would you eat it?

The oddest thing I think I've ever heard about is what the Chinese do. I worked for a Chinese company for 23 years. They put a monkey in a cage at the bottom of a special table with his head exposed through a hole. He is alive and they strap his head in, crack it like a coconut, and eat the brains raw. I've never seen it done, don't really want to see it done. Gad, wonder what sort of noise comes out from under that table? Yick.

Balut. Bagoong. Sun dried squid. Fish flavored chewing gum. Fugu. Hu hu. Habu Sake. Cat. Takosu. Uni. Trasi. Dog. Vegemite. Boudin noir. Nutria. Squirrel brains.

I don't even know what some of these are; I don't want to; and some of them just sound wrong!

I passed on the balut. That's a fertilized chicken egg, so its a formed chicken fetus inside the egg. Big delicacy in the PI, AKA the Phillipene Islands. Vegemite is that salty sandwich spread our half nuts Down Under brothers in Austrailia love, haven't tried it yet, maybe someday.

1. A pale looking hot dog from a lonely street vendor in a South American conflict area at two in the morning, we were really hungry.

2. What appeared to be whole Tillapia heads in a hot curry paste. I was not at home, not wanting to offend, I winced and crunched away.

3. Sheep brain, same story as above, F#$%*&G NASTY!

4. Sesos (cow brain) burrito from a taco truck in my home town - delicious!

The weirdest thing ive eaten was probably deer heart. There actually wasnt much of a taste to it. But it was a while back so its not fresh memory. Among other things ive had venison stroganoff (sp?), venison spaghetti, bear sausage, moose steak, phesant, and ostrich. The bear sausage taste exactly like pork sausage. The mosse steak was a bit gamey. All of it was quite good though, esp. the stroganoff and spaghetti. None of this is all that weird, well...maybe except for the deer heart and possibly the ostrich :D

Locusts, crickets and meal worms, all from some street vendor in Bangkok. Crickets taste terrible, locusts more like dry-roast peanuts soaked in soy sauce.

Catfish fajitas-best food ever

Strangest, various snakes, crawfish, calf fries. I've eaten a lot of stuff that I can't remember, and I've got a tiendita meat market about 3 blocks from the house that serves some stuff that I never thought about eating.

Balut (never again), dog (didn't know what it was at first), kimche (tolerable if you like spicy stuff) and still kickin' shrimp. You can hardly tell I spent a little time in Asia. After the balut, insects might have been a welcome palate cleanser. BTW, I think it's a duck egg, not chicken.

i was meaning more on the lines of killed and eat but this works to. iv eaten crow, which in my opinion is betern dove, rattlesnake, softshell and alligator snaper turtles, aligator, rocky mountain oysters, emu, raccoon, crickets, worms, frog legs, beaver, both types, the list goes on and on as i am willing to try everything once.

Roast Beaver tail (I'm not a big fan) Lynx (I'm not a big fan) Frog legs (I am a BIG fan) Mt. goat ( I am not a big fan)

KILLED and eaten??

Porcupine, back when I was in college. We shot one, one brave guy skinned it, and we roasted it over coals. Frankly, it was delicious.

What's so exotic about deer heart? It's just muscle tissue, same as a roast or steak. The liver is good too. I eat both, but don't consider it anything to brag about. They're just part of the deer edibles.

(Fry up some bacon. Put it aside. Fry up some onions in the bacon grease. Put the onions aside. Now slice the liver thin and fry it ONLY until it's not pink inside, not one second longer. [Most people make the mistake of frying it to death, then complain when it turns rubbery. Serves 'em right.] MMMmmm, liver and bacon and onions...I'm salivating just typing about 'em!)

My wife is part Norwegeian, so every so often we go to a lutefisk supper. Again, what's so exotic? In areas with a strong Norwegeian heritage, this is considered normal. BTW, I happen to like lutefisk. Never killed any, though.

Rattlesnake would be the weirdest I guess. Alligator was one of the best meats I've ever had.

Sloth - from the rain forest
Donkey - not very good
Dog - reminded me of pork
Frog - very good
Bull Penis soup - very tender meat (laugh it up, I bet your the first person to make fun of me for eating ****)
Cow foot soup - tasted like a live cow smells
Possum - not good

I remember when I brought baked possom and sweet potatoes to an Episcopalian pot luck dinner. I was fresh back into the States. A quick rumor stated that it was a large Chihuahua. I got it all to myself. It wasn't bad.

Racoon, on the other hand, is rather greasy. Maybe I'm preparing it wrong. Beaver is kind of greasy too, again, maybe it's in the preparation. I forgot that I have eaten turtle on the half shell. Not a bad dish.

I'm not certain (who is), but I think the Balut I ate in the PI was chicken. Perhaps chicken Balut is cheaper than duck Balut. You know how some sailors are on liberty, we gotta save the pesos for the San Miguel and entertainment.

One of the funnier dishes I ate in the PI was the "American" breakfast. I saw a sign in a window...."American Breakfat-25p" (25 pesos) and made a mental note to go back the next morning. Next day, I went in and asked what it was.......Egg, sausage, and toast. Good deal! I ordered up. Very quickliy I was brought a small fried egg with a yolk about the size of my thumbnail (who knows what it was....) one Vienna sausage, and a piece of melba toast on a saucer. I looked at the saucer and then said "Fine. I'll have twenty more just like this one" ;)

nosualc I have tried eel-pout once it was good. Last year only got one and my friend decided he wanted it so I let him. I have never cleaned one how do you go about it? I tried it at eel-pout festival about 5 years ago. Can't wait for ice up gonna try to clean one this year.
I happen to like lutefisk. Never killed any, though.
It is easy to kill just go catch some cod. ;-)
