Would You Go Out Of Your Way . . .

I want to live in a "gunny" neighborhood. Particularly with a friendly engraver as a nieghbor that will do some nice custom work for a 30 pack :)

When it is warm out, I hear gunfire all around our property a fair amount of time. People are out in the woods plinking or whatever. I am cool with that. Iwould not move just for that reason. However, it is my belief that the likelihood for a legimate SHTF scenerio is more likely with each passing day, and that "like minded" individuals may become important to deal with recovery from certain situations depending on how bad things may get.

In answer to the original question about "what would it be worth to me"...

The larger the scale of the community the more attractive it would be.

A one block neighborhood of shooters in a suburban area: I would favor that if I was planning to live on that side of town due to office location, etc. But I wouldn't move to another city for it, or move 20 miles across town. Probably half my neighbors are at least armed where I live already.

"Gunpark" :) Now we're talking. a handy range, probably an onsite gunsmith, a few gun shops, easy FFL transfers and private sales, several collectors, oddles of reloading setups, etc. I would seriously consider moving to be in such a place. Especially if it was within a couple of hours commute of where I work it would be close to a no brainer. My wife would chukle but would indulge me on this.

Guncity, USA :what: Wow, now I might be willing to consider a job change or whatever it would take to move there. Open carry and concealed carry encouraged. Multiple ranges and gunpark communities. Maybe even able to elect a state level representative, but at least all local elected officials would be shooters as well. Maybe even a Wal-Mart that sells a variety of handguns :) This would start attracting a lot of gun oriented businesses: importers, manufacturers, custom smiths, MAJOR lead receiving depot or smelter  , outfitters, and even destination attractions (machine gun shoots every month, competitions, shooting academies, etc.).

Guncity would even be large enough to have its own golf communities, airparks, etc. the trick would be to maintain the integrity of the shooting friendly community over time. I have seen it happen over and over again in organizations (private schools, youth groups) where newcomers that don't fully share the founders' values begin to get into positions of voting and decision making and pretty soon the organization has drifted from a tight focus to almost anything goes in the name of diversity and tolerance. But, hey, it would be a lot of FUN however long it lasted.

Back in my dirt track racing days, we had a battle cry. (there were a group of us that helped one another in the pits, parts and repairs wise, but all bets were off when on the track, actually racing...) it was an adaptation of the "Three Musketeers" battle cry... We would have our own pre-race drivers and crew meetings... and they ALWAYS ended with the cheer "All For One, One For All, and EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF"

That credo works for me and my neighbors too... I'll help them learn to shoot, even provide my personal range at no cost... but when/if the feces impacts the rotational oscillator, I'll care for me and mine... they'll need to worry abou themselves...

To Live Near Other Gunnies?

I would not search out a particular area to live based on who living there, might or might not have a gun. I moved from upstate ny to get away from anti's, and to be able to live in a state where i am allowed to ccw, and defend myself and my family. I am not interested wether my neighbors are armed or not. That is their business, as well as it is mine. I've told no one other than family, that i have a ccw. Don't know anyone well enough yet, in my new neighborhood , that i wish to share that info with. I chose a neighborhood, and a house, based i where i would feel comfortable to live, how the area looked, location to my work and most importantly, a house that my wife and i loved. :)

Don't Pack the Moving Van for Nevada Just Yet . . .

WGMom,
That is very interesting. I was thinking about going there, with my wife for some handgun courses.

Did you know that they also claim to be doing more for 2a rights than the NRA? Not really sure if that is true or not.

Based on that article, Mr Piazza, does not appear to be on the up & up.

Too bad...I loved him when he was catcher for the NY Mets:neener:
