Looking for some WST powder loads for 45 acp under Berrys 230 grain rn bullets. New to 45 acp.

4.5 WST with Winchester large pistol primer, Berry 230 RN, COL 1.260 worked nicely for me. Very clean burning.

WST is a great powder and works really well in .45. Last I looked you won’t find a Berry’s bullet load in the WW or Hodgdon data but Berry’s website has some recommendations for what load data to use.
If you’re new to reloading or reloading .45 I’d suggest starting with the lead data. I ended up with a COL longer than what Hodgdon has, but 4.3gr WST with a plated 230 gr bullet at 1.230” works really well in my P220.

I have always used either lead round nose data or stay at/close to FMJ round nose starting (minimum) load when using Berry's or Rainier plated bullets. Berry's recommends using lead round nose data or starting loads for FMJ for their plated bullets. I use Hodgdon Universal but Hodgdon does list both LRN and FMJ loads for WST.

From the Hodgdon website:

230 Gr LRN WST - 4.0 Gr start and 4.3 Gr max
230 Gr Hornady FMJ WST - 4.1 Gr start and 4.9 Gr max

They list OAL of 1.200" for both. You can verify by going to Hodgdon's website.

I normally run my 45 with Rainier plated RN at 1.225" OAL in my 1911 pistols.

I like WST, and I like the .45ACP, but I don't care for WST with 230grn .45... you have to max the load to get factory velocity which isn't something I like to do with a faster burning powder. I do like it with 200grn bullets, however. If you are looking for target loads or soft shooters, then you are probably good to go.

My notes for WST in .45ACP FWIW

RMR PLATED 230 RN 4.7 WST 1.252" good load. Accurate in dan Wesson and RIA.

WST 5.1 grains under 200 grain extreme plated round nose. Functions in all guns.

4.8 Grains WST under 185 grain Berry's hollow base round nose. Very low recoil, accurate., Does not function in Glocks or SIG.

5.1 WST under 185 berrys HBRN very good load. Exceptionally accurate in dan Wesson 1911 low recoil. Functions in Glocks but watch the limp wrist

“200 grain lead flat point bullet by Roger (BetterBullets)
5.1 grains WST
Winchester Large Primers
COL = 1.220
mixed brass

This is giving me an average of ~900 fps, and about a 180 for the PF. Been shooting it for years in 1911’s and 625’s

Standard cautions on sharing load data. YMMV”

posted earlier on a different thread, sorry not 230’s....

I just tested some today, 230 Grain zeros jhp 4.7 wst and the oal was 1.230 and velocity was at 730 average. 8 shots right there at 15 yards, naturally I got excited and pulled the last one.

Loaded to 1.250", Acme coated 230 Gr 4.3 Gr WST goes ~750 fps out of my Dan Wesson 5" barrel.

There always seems to be one that just does not want to go along with the others.
I have pretty much decided that bullet sprites watch for good groups then will deflect one bullet just because they are evil, spiteful sprites! (faries).
