XD 9mm

I have a XD 9mm that I bought about 7 years ago and before I even took a shot with it I sent it off to Richard Dettlehouse to have the trigger worked for some IPSC shooting. Now that I am not shooting comps anymore I was wondering if you had any thoughts on carrying a pistol that has a modified trigger. It is about 2.5lbs. I live in GA if that helps on any of the legal issues.

I'm not a lawyer and have no knowledge of GA law this is nothing more than my opinion. I have heard of cases going bad when handguns have modified parts (particularly triggers), I have even heard of cocking the hammer of a SA/DA revolver led to difficulties in court. It would probably be 'best to cover all your bases', including being safer, to have a stock (or closer to stock weight) trigger reinstalled. I believe in court, the jury is allowed to squeeze the trigger of a weapon in question to form their own opinion of it. To most 'non gun enthusiasts' a 2.5lb trigger on a hand gun will feel very light.

I'm no lawyer, but 2.5 pounds is bit light for my tastes on a carry gun.

I think 4-5 pounds is as low as I'd go.

Yup. 4-5 pounds. Don't push your luck. When the adrenalin is coursing through your body, 4 pounds will feel like nothing. 2.5? Dangerous.

XD triggers are pretty light as is in the 5.5-7.5 range for a carry weapon. I would send it off somewhere to get the trigger set in the 6 to 6.5 range which, I find, is a happy medium for a carry weapon.

Assuming it's not a legal issue in your state, I would carry it as is. I carry one with a 1-1/2 lb. trigger. But different strokes for different folks!

From the prosecution standpoint, you are reckless in choosing to carry a gun with a dangerous "hair trigger" (because you made it lighter than factory). Lay-people are not knowledgeable about guns generally. It does not matter if it's right, or if you like it or if you agree. A "jury of your peers" is rarely that. So, I don't care what state you live in; it could not possibly help your case. Stock only for me in a CCW.

Too light, just put the stock parts back in and avoid the possible problems outlined by the other guys.
