XD9 vs SIG

Said it before, will say again...there is NOTHING an XD can do that a Sig or SigPro cannot do. The new SigPro 2022 might be worth waiting for, BTW!

I now have 3600+ rounds thru my Bi-Tone XD9 and am completely satisfied with it. It has been very accruate once I made a minor adjustment to the sights and in all those rounds has had only one FTE. That was about round 650 and appeared to be a bad casing.

I'd buy another one in a minute. :)

JMag-
I disagree that there is nothing an XD can do that a Sig cannot. Engineering-wise, yes. Product line - no. I would love for there to be (and think there should be) a sub-compact version of the classic line. The 239 doesn't count (in my book anyway) since it doesn't interchange magazines. The Sigpro needs a subcompact too. Actually, I regard the SigPro as almost full-size given how dern big it is.

KLR,

Sig CAN do a subcompact; they, thus far, have chosen not to. I stand by the orginal comment I made.

BTW, if/when Sig DOES do a subcompact, I hope it looks a lot better than the XD sub.

JMag-

I don't really have a problem with the XD compact. It looks better than . . . well the Beretta PX-4. Not too hard, I admit. :D

I guess I could apply my logic to H&K too- never liked the fact that the USP full size and compact mags don't interchange.

Sig could, and should. They also should have come out with the 225 in .40 instead of the 239. The 239 is the only esthetically displeasing Sig in my book.

2 questions:
1. What is the job / purpose?
2. Which one do YOU shoot best?

I like my Sigs and XD...but for different jobs and for different reasons. May also which to consider SigPro, but I like traditional alloy or stainless Sigs over the SigPro polymers (personal mental preference thing).

Pointman: having both a sig and an XD would be real nice. however, at this time, my budget can afford only one nine. it may help to know for which jobs you use these for. i would like range fun, accuracy, and possible ccw in one package.

Value

I would say that the XD is a better value. If it fits better and cost less then it is the better value to you. If you are going to use it for defense, typicaly 15 m or less both pistols are more accurate than the shooter. I have two [2] XDs, one service and one sub compact. The sub compact is my CCW of choice.

I am intrigued by the XD series. Don't own one, but really like the XD subcompact for how it feels in the hand. Kind of ugly, but functional. I like it better than the 26/27/33 seried. I may get one at some point.

The ambi mag release is kind of a nice touch.

The Sig Sauer P250 is coming out soon.

rjk2475:

I love my XD for the same reason I love my Chevy truck...ain't the most glamorous thing on the road but I don't feel too bad about abusing it during the course of its use and it has never and I don't believe will ever let me down. Torture tests on it are amazing, just like Glock (I think even out-Glocks the Glock, but that's considered heresy talk 'round these parts): bury it in cow manure for a year, dig it up and shoot it without cleaning it. Bury it in salty seawater/beach for a year, dig it up and shoot it without cleaning it. Ice. Snow. Dirt. Grit. Desert sand. Drive a truck over it. The thing just doesn't care. What can I say, it goes bang nicely everytime I press the trigger. That said, the little 3" sub-compact doesn't fit my hand that well, I prefer the 4" Service or 5" Tactical. But not for CCW...too "blocky" and prints too easily on my frame.

I love my Sigs (all my Sigs) for the same reason I love my BMW...ultimate firing machine. Each one has "soul", that extra something that makes a special connection with my heart and my mind...bullseye everytime at 7yrds without even hardly trying, and 4"-5" off-hand groups at 25yds are almost a no brainer, and I'm not that great of a shot, mind you.

CCW: A real nice P229, P239, or P228 (or even P232 in .380) is what I would recommend for CCW. Regular alloy, not stainless (10oz+ extra weight), is probably want you'd want, unless you went polymer SigPro SP2022 (or SP2009 or SP2340). If weight is not a big deal, then go ST...I know a lot of LOE that carry full-sized P220ST's as their duty pistol.

Range, fun, accuracy: P226R (especially ST models!).

All-around: P228 or P229 (but I know a lot of people that carry a P226R for CCW, so don't discount the P226R without checking it out first).

And if you REALLY want to get spoiled, go for a P220 "Sport" :D

Cheers and good luck!

I liked the xd9 I tried. I found at the time however that there were virtually no holsters available for it at all, and it would not properly fit my Coronado vest holster.
However, for the price, I'd consider one. They're quite a bit cheaper than Sigs, are they not?

I like Sigs too though.

I have an XD-40 Service Model. Bone stock.

I'll gladly put it up against any dead stock Sig 40.

It is tough, accurate and yes...feels real good in the hands. The only pistol I own that feels better is my Hi-Power 9mm.

The XD is the Volvo of the pistol world. Boxy, not the fastest or sexiest thing around, but it will work everytime you need it, you can rely on it for high mileage and it may never stop running!

I (finally) own a Sig 229 in .357SIG and shoot with my friend, who carries an XD Service in .40. I have to say the two pistols are in totally different classes.

The XD is nicer to carry because it weighs less.

The Sig is a freaky-accurate tack driver.

The XD is a well thought out, safer system for the new shooter.

The Sig has a fabulous trigger and dang near points itself.

The XD costs much, much less than the SIG.

The SIG decisively outperforms the XD at longer ranges. Shot-to-shot accuracy is nothing short of bizarre.

Both pistols do their jobs effectively. Both pistols are rock solid. Cost is also a factor. I guess it boils down to what you're gonna have more fun with! :D

My 229 in .357 Sig is also scary-accurate.

SigP220ST_Guy: Not so sure about the P-250. I met with a Sigarms LE rep a while back. Given the huge French Gendarme contract, there is talk that the P-250 (at least I think it was the P-250) may never come out in anything other than 9mm. In that case, they don't see much reason to release it in the U.S.

My info is several months old, though. I am kind of partial to LEM H&Ks, but that is because they are polymer and relatively compact. I would love my Glock G-19 but with a DAK or LEM trigger rather than the Glock "suction cup dart gun" trigger.
