So ever since I got into firearms, I've always heard older generations say, "you're not an American if you don't own a xxx". Normally it's a 30-30, and now reading Uncle Nubbs post..

Only Patriots own M1 Garands. Heard that said somewheres. Kinda think there's some truth to it. Maybe they want less of us.

It got me thinking.

I own two CMP Garands. I am finally able to say I own a 1943 Winchester 93 in 30-30 as of today (well I'm waiting for the 10 days to be up. Yes I'm in California, yes it's sucks)

What are some other must have guns that scream "I'm an American"?

You will not be a true American until you stop being into forearms and start being into firearms.:D

You caught me. I was correcting my dang spelling. My laptop is down so I have to post from my phone. I always forget about the dang autocorrect

To be a true American you must own an imported rifle that shoots a communist cartridge, i.e. the SKS, AK47, or Mosin Nagant

In my opinion to be a true American you need to own at least one of these fire arms. Rifles : 1903 Springfield, winchester 1873/1894, marlin 336, M1 garand, m1 carbine, savage 99 and an ar of some sort

Shotguns : winchester 1897/12, rem 870, moss 500 , Ithaca 37, browning a5

Handguns: Colt and yes it has to be a colt SAA, 1911, Smith and Wesson model 10 and 29, any of the ruger .22 autos and also a ruger super blackhawk

"you're not an American if you don't own a xxx"

I am not a true American if I don't own something triple-X rated?

Seriously, this is silly. I sort of resent the concept of being told by fellow gun owners what guns I MUST own to be considered an American. That is not quite the American way.

.

Can of WD40 and a roll of duct tape.
If it moves and it shouldn't, duct tape.

If it should and it doesn't, Wd40

:)

It is silly, but that's the fun of it. No one takes it seriously.

I love the WD40 and duct tape. I would say an American made 1911, SR 10/22 or Ruger MK 22lr pistol, mossberg 500 or Remington 870, AR 15, American made Snubby 38 special/357 mag.

I would say:
A Semi-automatic rifle able to accept detachable magazines and all of the following:
Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one

Or a Garand, M1903, M1 Carbine or any other weapon used by US forces to defend the free world. Or a 30-30 lever action or Colt SAA.

Pretty much "check" on all, even the WD-40 and duct tape. 'Cept the Garand. Always wanted one, got my paperwork together to qualify for the CMP version, then decided I really didn't like the idea of needing clips. (Yeah, I know, stoopit.)

One other thing I have is a little booklet containing the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.

I would include that as a necessary qualification to be a "true Umurricuhn."

But that's just me.

And yeah, I know, it gets me on another "List."

Again.

A Remington Model 870 in 12 gauge, a Colt 1911 in .45 ACP, and a Winchester Model 94 in .30-30; all made in the U.S.A.

I would say:

Something in 22 LR
A 30/06 although you might slide in with a 308 Winchester
A 12 gauge shotgun
A 223 will add to your legitimacy
You could substitute a 45 ACP for one of the above except the 22 LR

I got my true american credentials long ago in a far off place. A 1911 and an m16 were the tools that initiated me.

I tend to agree with post 5

Btw I own most of the guns mentioned in this thread. Plus the items mentioned in post 22 :)

A maxed out credit card, a shopping mall close by and a love of fast food? Fortunately I don't have any of those things!

But a shotgun and a .22 of some sort is a good start. I'm tempted to say an 06 or a 30-30 as well, but they seem to have been bumped off the list in the last few years by the ever present 9mm.

True American

I have to agree with post #5 also, but if you really want to feel like an american the .45 long colt is it. Cant get more American than that
