.45 and 1911 losing ground?

I see a lot of 1911 moving thru my dealer show case and others . Yes plastic sell but not like a 1911 . I started carrying in military in 1967 . Been a lot of years together

For me it depends on the application. At the range I like my 1911. Shooting 45 out of a big steel framed pistol is hard to beat.

On my hip in my iwb holster I prefer my Glock 19. It offers simplicity, reliability, capacity in a compact light weight package I carry all day.

In the woods I like to have a 357 magnum revolver on me. I can shoot it more accurate at a longer distance than other guns and with the right load offers better penetration. And I'm not worried about concealment.

I conceal carry my 1911 occasionally still. I definitely feel well armed. However, the biggest downside for me is the weight. I still like shooting it and handloading 45 much better than shooting the glock and reloading 9mm though.

Took the SA-A1 out yesterday with some FMJ-FN ammo. Last round didn't feed and lodged itself vertically in the ejection port. :banghead: What is amusing is this round is quite similar to the Hydra Shok that feeds fine. Why it didn't chamber properly was...ugh. Will run through the various mags to see what mags will feed that round properly.

I don't know if it is a "challenge" or part of the characteristic of 1911's in that finding that happy spot comes with an ongoing search. Search as in magazines and any number of fine tuning adjustments. Extractor, ejector, springs, barrel, ejection port flaring-opening, etc. The sometimes finicky nature for those who want to just shoot can be frustrating. The thing is fun to shoot just that I wonder what is around the corner.

If I stick with 230gr FMJ RN stuff it is happy.

I have loaded 9 mm for nearly a year now, but it was always for friends since I didn't have a 9 mm pistol of my own. I remedied that this week, but it feels like a toy when compared to the 1911 that I inherited from my grandfather. I still consider the 1911 to be my principal pistol.

Have you put each on a shot timer for any particular drills or target size/distance?

The last two classes I attended the 1911 was carried by at least 50% of the students, I shot one of my 1911's for all three days of the classes

Were these classes in CA, with magazine capacity restrictions?
