Best All Around Gun Company

I agree Ruger would be top list if there were only one firearm company available here in the US. As hypothetical as it would be. They have great CS and selection across many firearm niches.

As mentioned they do not carry shotguns. Remington is the only other company I can think of that has a wide enough line as far as selection goes. But their quality control has been abysmal lately. I would rather have Mossberg, with less selection, as rule all company instead of Remington.
 
I have bought 3 870's the last 2 years and they have been very good . I think they have improved quality in the past couple of years over when the quality complaints started many years ago . But it is like many thing including people once you get a bad reputation its hard to ever shake it in peoples minds especially if you were done wrong . I had never owned a Remington until I bought my Police Mag about 6 years ago , now I have 4 . I would buy another in a heartbeat if I wanted a gun in that price range . I looked at the Mossberg , but I liked the Remington better .

I had a Remington 870 Express Police Tactical (I think that was the long form name of it) and it was a crappy firearm for the price tag. About the same time I also had a Remington 770 that was nearly impossible to get rid of. I am keeping an eye out for an 870 Wingmaster now that I am back into buying firearms instead of selling.

It's a crying shame what Remington has done to some truly great designs, namely the 870. I would love to have a solid 870, but through my personal experience with them I don't think Remington is capable of producing decent firearms anymore. I might like to try a Wingmaster, but for the money I'm not really willing to risk it based on past experiences with their other products.

I've had my 870 for 20 years. Still my turkey gun. Still, I know people who have had problems with it but mostly newer versions.
 
Geez, can't believe no one has mentioned Taurus! They have autos and revolvers. And they kinda have carbines and sorta have a shotgun when you consider the Judge firing shot shells.
 
You beat me to it hso. I don't know a thing about S&W shotguns, but handguns, AR's and with Thompson Center under their wing, hunting rifles and single shots.
 
I am a little biased, that is true, but over the 40+ years I've been shooting the only company that covered all the bases I need is CZ, especially since the BREN 805 came out. I agree, they don't have any lever action rifles, but they have shotguns in semi, single, double and pump, rifles in bolt action, single shot, (the Brno's they stock), semi auto, rimfire and centerfire, semi auto pistols, one lonely revolver through DW, and the oddball category being occupied by the Scorpion versions. :)
I never had a single bad experience with Ruger that I can recall, but I sure hated trying to find 20 round magazines for my Mini-14 back in the day!

Taurus wasn't mentioned for a reason.

Im confused at most of these responses. People are naming multiple Manufacturers.

Op said "one company". My "overall pick" is Smith and Wesson.
 
I agree CZ is a good one with their wide range of firearms . I have never seen one of their branded shotguns though .
 
Overall, I have to go with Ruger. As others have noted, the one thing I need that Ruger doesn't make is a pump action shotgun.
 
You just cannot be the best gun company in the US of A if you don't make a 12 gauge pump.
 
Thats a tough one.
A lot of votes for Ruger here but they are not without issue. Every manufacturer has turned out some duds at one point or another and some of them deal with them better than others.
Some manufacturers have sold out politically at some point as well. Ruger with the Assault Weapons Ban. Smith and Wesson with the internal lock. Maybe they had to do it at the time to stay in business. None of them are perfect.
I am really fond of Henry Rifles as a company. I only own one of their products but it has been superb. They are known for standing behind their products, and haven't had any PR snafus that I am aware of. But, they also don't make any handguns--yet.
CZ also makes excellent rifles, their craftsmanship is top notch and not found on many American made items.
Classic Smith and Wessons were the pinnacle of revolver production but those days are long gone.
The Russian Government has turned out pretty good offerings in all of the categories but they are lacking in the warranty department.
