Too many guns

I am retiring on 1 Sept. I have a Korth on order and I honestly think that will be the last one. Too many? Probably considering some don't get out to the range very often, but it's nice to have them when I want to shoot them. Or when I want to reload for them, heh, heh.....

My problem is my wife says do you want it when I'm admiring a gun. It is like asking an alcoholic if he wants another beer. I shoot all my guns occasionally, but consistently grab the same few if I need to actually shoot something. It makes me wonder why I have the others.

Is there a point where you tell yourself you have too many guns?
Yeah, I reached that point several years ago ... gunsafes full so longguns stored outside (sans bolts so a burglar could beat me with them but not shoot me ;)).

I told myself that I have to start trimming the herd.

Since then I have sold none but bought another 10-12. <sigh>

:)

I knew a man, a collector that had a room floor to ceiling with drawers of boxed Smith and Wessons. There must have been 1100 handguns in that room, a lot of them were rare, and unfired. He was always looking for another piece to add to his collection. In another room were Ballard rifles, and Pope loading target rifles. In the basement he had a Gatling gun in 30/40 Krag, on a full sized carriage. No, I don't have too many guns...

I reached that point pretty much. I'm still very interested in what's new and so forth, but I am very selective now on purchases. I used to buy things just to try out and sell it in a few months if I didn't care for it or it didn't suit me for one reason or another. Now, not so much.

Absolutely. I very recently did. We had just bought a new house so were getting ready to move. Took a bunch of guns to a LGS and consigned them for sale -- thereby going from two safes to one. We just got into our new home, and reducing my gun collection was absolutely the right thing to do.

No indeed, it seems many of us have too FEW!

I've thinned my herd a bit over the past year. I got rid of all my .40 S&W pistols. All one of them. I also got rid of a Glock 36 and a 19.

I've got a NIB Gen 3 Glock 20 sitting in the safe. As soon as SA releases the 10mm XDm I'll get rid of the Glock and get the XD.

I've got a pre-Remington Marlin 1894 .44 Mag I'd like to convert to a .357 lever gun. Or even a .327 FM gun.

I've got about a dozen guns on my bucket list.

Just before I buy another one. :D

Seriously, I keep saying I will sell one or two, makes me think to look out there for one to replace, then I seem to buy one and not sell the others. Maybe one day I will get a better control on it.

This could have been my reply, word for word. I do have a few I could stand to, uh, (wait for it!) unload, but I never did, and it's just not a good time now to, gun sales being what they are.

But I do frequently find myself one short of "enough." :D

No I don't have too many I have enough. Acquired my last one a year ago, before that 2011 was the last gun purchase. Now ammo that's where I'm lacking.

I had probably 60-70 at one time. Couldn't fit the rifles in a large safe, and I was paying a lot every year for insurance. Sold probably 2/3rds. Don't regret it a bit

Not anymore. Had to sell some to get the last little bit of a down for my first house. About the house I am :D. About the guns I am:(. I will get them back over time.

This poster needs to be blocked for even suggested such an outrageous question :)
I started contemplating that when a coworker was saying he had a lot of guns because he had 5 and asked me what my favorite gun was. I was like well I have no idea.

It can happen. For a long time I had gun buying as a hobby. I got transferred overseas and had to put my guns in storage. That meant inventorying, cleaning, oiling, wrapping and packing every single one of them. It took a while to do. I discovered that I had not one, not two but three of the exact same gun. I decided that I didn't really need guns in 243, 250 Savage, 260, 7mm-08 and 308, so I sold out of a few chamberings. It's still a work in progress, but I'm still selling way more than I'm buying.

I have far fewer firearms than many on this board and my small safe is overflowing and some guns that can't fit inside.

I have 5-6 firearms I have purchased in the last couple of years that I have literally never even shot. This honestly bothers me but at the same time I refuse to part with any of them.

But all my firearms have a niche, my son is left handed but too young to shoot so I'm planning ahead, we may be relocating in the next year or so, and I still want a few other firearms.

Some see guns as an investment but I see it as a risky one. I really doubt I'm 10-20-30 years we will be able to sell private party at all.

The only time I think I might have too many guns is when I get home after a long range session and realize it's gonna take a couple weeks to clean all the guns I shot that day ...

Otherwise, I'm good ... and always on the prowl for something new and interesting.

I finally thinned the herd. Looking in the safe one day it occurred to me that most had not been fired since they had come into my care. There were (2) 20ga Winchester 101's, one of them in 98% condition, a SKB 600 12ga, several 22's of different Nationalities, a custom Mauser 22rf that was absolutely gorgeous, and 10 or 12 handguns that had never had a cartridge in their chambers while I had them. Then there were the 6 or 7 high powered rifles that never got shot. I had one that I always turned to when it was time to gather meat. The others just took up space. They are all gone.

Now I still have all of my favorites that I love to shoot and hunt with and a new truck.:D
