So long story short, I just got back a pretty sizable settlement and the wife said I could buy any-(within reason) new guns I wanted. I already have all my bases covered; Handguns, Rifles, Shotguns etc. But I am trying to re-cover my bases. Definitely don't need any more hunting rifles or shotguns. I want all my guns to be practical, not just for collect ability. So here's what my mock up list looks like so far, subject to change.

1. Agency Arms Glock 19 - (because you can never have too many)

2. Springfield Professional Model (Assuming I could find one)

3. Some flavor of a Rifle Dynamics 7.62 SBR

4. SCAR 17 - I've put too many 1000's of rounds through them to have never actually owned one.

5. Floater choice here, Pistol Dynamics Scout (Just because I've always wanted one), HK45c same reason, IDK, give me some ideas.

So, if given the opportunity, what would be your 5??

1) Ruger 77 Hawkeye with green MTN laminate stock in 6.5 cm
2) Springfield M1A std
3) Ruger Vaquero in 357
4) AK any variant in 7.62x39
5) fully loaded HK USP (compensator and etc)
Those are my picks. I think the Scar would be neat though.

1. Chapuis 450/400 nitro express double rifle.
2. Savage 10/110 Stealth 6.5 Creedmoor
3. FNX-45 Tactical FDE
4. Shiloh Sharps 1874 Quigley
5. Savage Model 116 .458 win mag (custom re barreled rifle on Gunbroker)

Ruger #1 in .300 H&H w/Leupold vxIII 3x9
Browning Over-Under set-.375 H&H and 20 Ga. (I know where one set exists...last I saw had a $3,000 price tag)
Remington 1100 16 gauge, 26" vent rib/Flush fitting adjustable chokes
Freedom Arms 7-shot in .327 Federal 6.5" (it's a fantasy post, right!! ;))
Dan Wesson Bruin 10mm.,

I would encourage you to savor your good fortune and buy them slowly. As happens with all of us, our needs and desires change over time. I could easily make a long list of guns I want. But, next month that list would change and the priorities will shift. So, slow down.....don't be in a hurry to fill your cabinet. Half the fun of acquiring new guns is the search.

I'd be tempted to buy a few things. Maybe a custom flintlock or a Uberti Winchester 73. In reality I'd probably buy a little ammo and put the rest in the bank or pay off debt if I had any. Of course we have no idea how much money you're talking about because sizeable means different things to different people.

I wouldn't.
Don't worry, something will capture your attention eventually, Something you can assuredly put to good use and enjoy possessing. ,

With all your bases covered, you might consider only purchasing 1 or 2 firearms that you might not otherwise be able to afford under normal circumstances. I would focus on ones that are nice but that you can use and not feel guilty about it.

Were I in your position, I would probably go with a SIG P210 and / or a custom 1911 like a Guncrafter. I also like JeffG's suggestion of the Shiloh Sharps (mine is a saddle rifle, not a Quigley). I own all three of the firearms mentioned and highly recommend them. If I had any money left over, it would go to ammo to shoot all of the above, a lot.

If I was really lusting after 5 particular guns, and had the spare money to buy them, that's one thing.

But to just go buy 5 random guns because you've got money burning a hole in your pocket and the wife gave the thumbs up seems a little hasty. I'd put the money in the bank (or more likely my IRA) and spread any purchases out over the coming years as deals come along on things I really wanted.

Depends how much money we’re talking about. There’s guns I wouldn’t buy even if I was a multimillionaire. I might buy a couple guns and pay for a safari to use them.

Have you ever shot a pistol that was really designed to be shot? Not to be carried. Not to be dropped in mud. Just as much pure shooting performance* as can be crammed into a handgun as possible? Do that and you might change what you're going to spend your mad money on.

* This, of course, can mean several different things. But the thrust of this comment holds true regardless of which meaning you attach to it.

So, if given the opportunity, what would be your 5??
If given the opportunity I would not rush out and buy 5 new firearms.

I would probably only buy one, maybe 2, and spend some time with it (them) before deciding on whether or not to add another to the herd right then.

The only 3 items currently on my Wish List are a G/K43, a P08 Luger and vintage Marlin 1894 in .32WCF ... but I already have many different firearms, so ... :)

BTW, congrats on the settlement, corton93!

Nice problem to have. I'm with CoalTrain49: bank the funds until something really grabs your attention.

Personally, I can't list five I need or want. I'd probably start researching a custom built bolt action rifle in one of the new whiz-bang low-recoil long range cartridges: 6.5 CM, 6mm CM, or even the new .224 Valkyrie ... just to be different.

I have guns that do all of the things I want to do in the shooting disciplines right now. In several cases I have more than one option to pick from when pistol match day comes up, or I'm thinking of attending a rifle event, or I'm thinking of going hunting for any of several types of game.

None of my guns are particularly exotic or high-end. But none of them are holding me back, either. Any of them will let me shoot to the best of my abilities. So I can't think of any reason to wish I had some other guns. It's enough of a pain in the rear to store the ones I have (most of which really get very little attention as it is).

If there were more money in my shooting fund I'd consider the following:

1) Improving the weakest link: Me. Taking some high-quality training in pistol, rifle, and shotgun shooting, across several disciplines in each category. Putting in the only real investment that sees returns: bringing my own skills up to a higher standard.
2) Competition fees and associated costs: Similar to No.1. Participating in competition is a fantastic education and skills driver all on its own, and the experience of becoming a proficient gun user, among others of like mind and surpassing skill, is worth far more than yet another gun in the safe.

In other words, what's needed is not more GUN, but more SHOOTER. :) If you have to ask what guns you should want or like or desire, what's the point in spending good money on them? Who cares what other people think you should want? A gun is a tool for putting holes in something at distance, preferably as quickly as possible. What makes you more capable of fulfilling that task in a masterful way? 99% of the time it isn't new gear.

I can't think of a more hollow and shallow pursuit than buying expensive consumer goods because somebody else told you that you should want them.

Depends how much money we’re talking about.

well the man/woman's wish list tallies up to around 10-15k, give or take, depending on the #5 pic. So that should give you an idea...

personally the only guns on my wish list are run of the mill. (Benelli M2 Field, CZ shadow 2 and HK USP Match) if I were to make a true wish list they would all start at over 100k.:what:

1) A rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor.
2) A CZ527 Carbine in 7.62x39.
3) A lever action carbine in .357 Mag.
4) An original M1 Carbine.
5) A Beretta Model 84.

This is just MY list, according to MY needs and wants

Upgrade optics existing optics. Complete the three or four projects that are awaiting money. Set up reloading bench.

Then I'd add the firearms I'd love to have-
-Marlin Cowboy in 45 Colt
-New Winchester 94 25-35
-Tavor X95
-Galil Ace in 7.62x39
-Remington Custom Shop Model 547 Classic 22LR

Or simply get a full auto AR

Thanks everyone for the concern, but we are already good financially. House is paid for, and we finished paying off all student loans like 7 or 8 years ago so all we have is one car payment and utilities, easy enough. And this year I have taken the pistol 3 and close quarters carbine course with Telluric group, and a low light course up at Valor Ridge. Burned out for now lol. And yes, every gun on my list is just because I want one. Better things I could do with my money? Sure, but its a hobby. And its a 7 digit settlement from a botched knee replacement (publicly known faulty part from the producer and no hesitation ro go ahead with the surgery from the doc.) And before someone beats me to it, yes, ive already written a 6 digit check to my church.

  • Accuracy Int’l Arctic Warfare in .308
  • Some kind of Savage 99
  • Pneumatic pumpkin cannon
  • Duck/skeet shotgun
  • Garand with matching serial numbers

I came into a lot of money after my wife passed a while ago. I got a good amount of insurance. I waited six months before I spent a penny. Its hard to get your head around money you never had. Your five choices are excellent. Only advice is to think about things before you pull the trigger (pun intended).
