I bought some .22lr, 9mm practice ammo, several extended mags and a couple of pistols recently in light of the current situation(s). That got me wondering: is anyone else stocking up ?

Yes, about 1-2 years ago.

Those of us in the Handloading and Reloading category after the "Great Component Shortage" jumped on the bandwagon several years ago when prices dropped to decades low levels. While many poo poo'd us for being "hoarder-like", I posted prices of everything gun related will likely go up from historic low levels and to stock up while items were in stock at low prices - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/what-to-stock-up-on.855885/#post-11225563
Happy days ... Stock up while prices are low and items are in stock.

You are all properly warned.

When you whine later, I will direct you back to this thread. ;)

I also started a new 22LR thread last year when the price of 22LR dropped below $20/500 - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...30-for-500-rounds.825048/page-8#post-11165978

I also stocked up on several AR kits, AR parts and scopes that I finished for others essentially at my pre-panic cost because they were good friends and family.

I bought a couple thousand rounds of 22s mainly because they were affordable, but I found those while intentionally looking for reloading components. I also have a couple guns I would normally be looking to trade away, but I’m not sure if now is the peak or if I would be well advised to wait a bit closer to the Biden Bump. I have a basic AR and a 38spl pocket rocket that need a new home, but I’m kinda holding them until I get a better feel on what the future holds.

Hi...
I chose "other" because I am always trying to stock up on reloading supplies.
Not to say that I am not buying firearms, although I have all I "need", I don't have all I want. I have managed to buy five firearms this calendar year and always am looking for something else to add to the collection.

I checked “Rimfire Ammo” even though I’m not stocking up as much as I’m trying to maintain our current stock. However, that’s not working out too well right now because we (my wife and I) have been going through a lot of 22LR ammo shooting ground squirrels lately, and around here, the stores themselves don’t have a lot of 22LR ammo to choose from.

just picked up a few primers that seem to be hard to get. all told i thinking i have less than 6000. i could maybe use some more bullets

I just came from Sportsmans Warehouse a few minutes ago. I was looking for another Shooting Chrony since on another thread we’re discussing that they’re possibly out of business.

Some general observations as of today at 1130hrs:

a. No .22 LR ammo but .22 Mag is on the shelves
b. A ton of .17 HMR on the shelves.
c. Zero .223 in the store. Heard the guy at counter say another Sportsmans had it in stock but was about a 35 mile drive. He offered to call and see if they would put some on hold until the customer could get there.
d. Some Glocks and other semi autos on the wall but didn’t check calibers. All semis seemed to start in the $700 range.
e. Lots of boxes of 6.5 ammo sitting around.
f. Zero tactical shotguns in the rack.
g. Battle rifles (M1A etc. ) in racks along with other .223s with prices starting at about $1700. Nothing below that.
h. Lots of lever guns available.
I. No 12 gauge slugs or double 00 in either 2 3/4 or 3 inch. Game ammo available in both 20 and 12.
j. 1 can of 2400 on shelf ( I have plenty and decided to leave it for a fellow reloader)
k. Few other cans of Mag pistol powder but everything very picked over and bare. Didn’t check bullet availability.
l. Reloading equipment shelves were almost empty
m. I saw NO high capacity AR mags. ZIP!

I checked rimfire but probably could use some large pistol primers and another pound or Two of powder.

I shoot quite a bit, so I am always short on training ammunition. My 9mm go-to has always been steel case Winchester forged or whatever Russian ammo I can get a deal on by the case, and whatever 223 I can get a deal on,but that has been problematic as of late. As a result, I have been firing my S&W M&P 22 pistol and my S&W M&P 15-22 quite a bit, doing the same drills I normally do with my Glock 17 and AR15. WIth the M&P 15/22 I need to hang my pro-timer on the barricade so that it will register. I got lucky and scored about 2,000 bulk Remington 22 LR yesterday.

I reload so I'm always good to go. I'm not stuck on one type of component. I take whatever is available at the time. Lots of fun experimenting with new components. Been reloading long enough to not be afraid to try new loads.

I'm buying some extra reloading supplies and some 22LR. I'll buy more 17HMR when I can find a better price. Seems to be plenty 17HMR available, but nothing at sale level prices, Shelves at Cabela's have some, but asking price is the highest in the country. No thank you.

I don't think of my recent purchases as stocking up. I feel more like I'm taking advantage of supplies while they are available.

I have stocked up with a lot of ammo. Center fire, shotgun Buck shot etc. Have been doing this for years. Now watching the chaos going on now, the obvious going on, I only wish I had stocked even more. And I am not talking about the Covid Virus. That is not the crisis. What is coming down the Pike is going to be bad.
Also stocking up on Medical supplies etc.

Ernie is right. The virus is not the problem. But, stocking up on many things, including ammo is a good idea.
