I am not even looking,as gun shops are mostly closed and the gun shows are too.

If your just started to stock up,you are FAR behind the '8' ball ,its not funny.

Best of luck to any in that position.

Prices that I have seen online are scary = IF they have any in stock at all.

I stocked up by buying a hog. :D Oh, wait. You mean firearms-related stuff.

Out of curiosity, I checked SG Ammo this morning. There is literally zero 9mm in stock. Zero. And there is one kind of 5.56 / .223 at $1.25 a round.

It's just time to coast on what you have. The time to stock up was a few years ago.

I remember when Macy's sold military surplus rifles by the barrel load in their basement. Wasn't a clothes store.

That is a good point about stocking up for what but we don't want to go down the politics lane again.

I remember when a box of American Eagle 9mm FMJ was $14.99. (Okay, I bought my first gun about four weeks ago.)

Fortunately, I didn't know about lower prices in the past, so I stocked up.

What we learned from the last situations was that just sit it out, the zombies aren't coming. I recall talking to a LGS friend after the Obama panic and seeing folks buy ARs for 1200 and then wanting to sell them back and finding they would get 300 bucks.

I only started seriously shooting in Jan 2019 so I never lived a panic before. Lucky for me my mom grew up poor as dirt on a farm picking cotton and making do with nothing. Instincts told me to make hay while the sun shines so I stocked all of '19 and started reloading just in time to stock components before the poo hit the twirling blades. :)

If you want to buy about twice before the freakout prices, you can find 9mm and 45 ACP. Free Market.

My LGS still has $20 9mm fmj and 6 cent 22 LR on the counter for walk in customers, but they are having difficulty restocking the popular stuff.

Seems like the greater the uproar, the longer it takes to work out supply & demand issues. Times like these do help to sort out the retailers who are in for short-term gain from those in it for the long haul.

Given my eclectic caliber choices, I have taken the opportunity to stock-up a few rifle loads that I was short on (like 7.5mm French), but have also found some reasonably good deals on retail 9mm, like CCI Blazer Brass for $11 something a box at Sportsman's Warehouse.

I want to get a few more boxes of PPU French 7.5. Regret not getting it when I had the chance. Its either old surplus or a case from SGAmmo

I'm throwing money into my old Duster. Few more to-do's to pass tech inspection, then hopefully get her to the strip to see what she'll do. Assuming the track is open. Got time to work on it now so what the heck. Set with handloads for deer season and plinking. Good to go.

I learned early from my old man to buy when prices were low. He was a handloader and who got me started. I was blessed to inherit alot of what he had.

If you look there are still reloading items available. Yesterday I was in a LGS and the powder selection wasn't all that bad. I picked up an extra pound of Varget to add to the pile. Passed on some SPP, but there were some available.

For those in need, hang in there and keep your eyes peeled. When things are available and you want it, bite the bullet. I grabbed 8lbs of BE ans 5k LPP from MidSouth a week or so ago.

I was low on both and it was there. A little extra coin to have it available was worth it.

A few months ago I built out my reloading room in my garage. I also bought a steel cabinet for my loaded ammo, and once it was all in one place I thought...good lord I have a lot of ammunition. Not looking that way now. I'm fine, there's plenty to last me till the 2024 election if I didn't buy another round or component, but it's funny how quickly the perspective changes. I do need to get me one of those Heritage 22 revolvers though. Still sitting on a healthy amount of 22lr that I stocked up on after they became available again after the last drought.

There is absolutely nothing left in the gun shops within a 50-mile radius of me that remotely interests me (although my little LGS had a couple nice old S&W revolvers, but they'd just be duplicates of what I've already got).

I've got a surplus of ammo, good on holsters and shooting accessories. Guess I could always order new magazines for everything I own, but ... why?

I am, however, stocking up on dog food, dog supplies, dog medical supplies, emergency food stock (canned, freeze-dried, MREs, etc.) and medical supplies. Socks, underwear, boots, cold-weather gear ... Generator if you don't have one. Fuel, stabilizer. Water. Got a lot of masks, Quik-Clot, gloves, battle dressings, surgical tools/stitches, meds, etc. -- that's what I think folks might want to be taking a look at, if they can afford to.

As the saying goes: better to have it and not need it ...

LOL I've got a Chewy wall of canned dog food for my 2 dogs about 4' high and 20' long (4 mos. supply) ... starting to draw it down to maybe half that. I started to panic when the meat packing plants shut down. I already have a 6 mos. supply of human food and 2 mos. bottled water (with purifiers).

I'm still getting accessories and ammo. I've gotten a lot of ammo over the last few mos. I already had a ton (not going to say here but plenty) and I'm still getting more. Rather buy early into a drought than to go without and this might be a very long drought indeed.

Yep, pretty much. I'm not "stocking up" anymore, but I still buy the random boxes or cases when I get the chance. Only time I ever complained about having too much ammo was when I was doing a "do it yourself" move to another state.

I'm too poor to "stock up" too much. When .22lr ammo finally became available not that long ago, after a VERY long time of ABSOLUTELY NOTHING available, I started "stocking up". I'm sure I don't have near as much as many others here, but I started buying what I could, when I could. I also got whatever other ammo I could get, whenever I could. Limited to more common, normal ammo. .38 Special, .45ACP, .223

I did get some black gunpowder a few days ago, though. Can't ever have enough of that. ;) For the moment, it's generally available.... for the moment.

I can certainly understand how someone may not have stocked up by now because he was financially unable to do so (ammo is EXPENSIVE), but if you were totally blindsided, and didn't see this coming once all these Gubernors started shutting everything down and demanding people wear masks... well, I don't know what to tell ya.

I stocked up on ammo during the Clinton administration. My wife and I would go do our weekly Walmart shopping and I’d buy at least 2 of the 100 round Winchester 9mm ammo for $9.97 and then 1000 rounds of some bulk 22 ammo (Federal). Every week we brought ammo home. When deer season was nearing I’d buy 30-30 ammo and when dove season I’d buy the 100 round box’s of 12 and 20 gauge. At my local gun shop hang out I’d pick up .223, 7.62x39 and .308 Winchester. I saw this coming a long way off.

At the risk of going off topic, you're sort of onto something here. Our families have other needs in addition to shooting supplies. At this point, one has to weight the benefits of paying too much for ammo or buying the other necessities of life, the price of which are also on the rise and facing localized shortages. It's basically a question of opportunity cost.

Well, for those of us without $200K hidden away in a backpack anyways ...
