I have the American Ranch in 7.62x39. Beside the normal complaints of no iron sights or about the plastic stock, blah blah bah, my only gripe is that it's ridiculously loud. I don't have any device on the end of my barrel and suppressors are not legal here in NY, so what if anything can I screw on the barrel to take the whomp out of the whomp rat?

Of course it's loud. A simple bloop tube will be effective in reducing the noise you hear about as well as anything you can screw on the end of the barrel that is not a silencer.

In my experience, an inexpensive Blast Diverter (flash can, etc) makes a significant difference on short barreled pistols in rifle-sized calibers. For ~$25, you should be able to reduce the blast-slap-shockwave feeling quite a bit.

It will be nowhere near hearing safe, but it'll sound like a rifle instead of an industrial accident.

I have the same rifle. I installed a Surefire brake. I don’t consider it loud and it is exceptionally accurate and there is zero muzzle flip and no recoil. One of the best. I shoot quality ammo. I have not fired regular cheap AK ammo.

When you fire the cheap stuff, you should be surprised at, and happy with, the results.

I also have to point out that the Army EOD guy doesn't think it's loud.

I have two of these and don't think they are overly loud. I have A2's on both of them more to protect the crown than anything. Having said that, if you add a linear comp please post an update. I do use these as truck guns so anything to help with the noise is welcome. I also live in a non-silencer state. I only use Golden Tiger out of mine and it shoots great! PLEASE Ruger PLEASE if you are reading this thread come out with a version with iron sights!!!!

Got the same rifle. It's not that loud. It makes an awesome suppressor host though.
About any good linear comp should be good.

My 300WM or 338WM and a JP brake is loud and terribly obnoxious.

My 50 cal......... well everyone expects the thunder and lighting.
