A new trend I noticed

In the last couple months I have noticed a lot of shooting "friends" wanting me to sell them some of my reloads. A good bunch of them I have offered in the past to show how to reload but they never put in the effort. Told them what propellant to purchase and helped them pick out a bullet and what primers. Then we could assemble some ammo after testing. Nope, they want me to make them ammo and just "pay me costs" LOL. Anybody else noticed this trend?
 
Of course. People want instant gratification. They also just want something that will make their guns go bang.
 
I've seen it maybe slightly more. I tell them the same things you guys have. I've actually had a couple that did come over to load stuff.

There have been some all along but the last couple months or so there has been a noticable uptick. Might have been the realization that there is zero hunting ammo available this year.

don’t do it man! not worth the potential liability. Even using your reloading gear, if it’s not a close family member, like my brother, or a long time reloader friend, NOPE! not having my house burn down

Could be. I see you're in Maine - hunting season has been over for two months out here in Idaho. Hopefully there will be "hunting ammo" available before "hunting season" opens in October this year.
Nevertheless, I'll be building my own hunting ammo just like I've done for the last 40 years or so. I won't be building ammo for anyone else (other than my wife) though - and my wife helps me build it.;)

My brother and a friend will shoot my reloads with me. A few friends did ask for some ammo and I gave them a bunch of factory ammo. I can spare a lot of my factory ammo and never miss it. And besides, I factored beggars into my supply... same with food in the case of an emergency... but not for fuel... only my mother and brother would get any of my fuel. lol

I didn't think about the liability in the event I ever did give out some of my loads. Anyone every hear of any issue with someone suing someone over an incident with their reloads? I would probably part with some components if anyone asked, but I wouldn't give out reloads to anyone.

Yup. Definitely. I caved in and just agreed to help out the farmers with ammo when needed a long time ago. They don’t really have the time and I like farm fresh food.
 
I owned a drycleaning store many years ago. I did a favor for a dear friend and used to clean and press all his family's clothing for free.

After a year or so, one of his wife's silk blouses got ruined. I had to buy her a brand new one and our families never spoke again.

I will never hand one of my reloads to anyone.
 
Do they want you to drive them to the range and buy them lunch too?
With all the ammo shortages I can see them asking you to help them get some, but not offering anything for your help is not being a good friend.
 
My brother was shopping for a gun for his wife, and asked for my suggestion. All I said was : "Find a nice .38 SPL or compact 9mm that she likes" A nice little side note was : " I hand load these calibers, and I could supply you with enough ammo to wear the gun out if you wanted....."

He went out and bought her a .380....... ....."Well she liked it best, so we went with it". He said.
Probably because it had some pink in the polymer grip or something like that....

A week later he was asking about procuring ammunition for it, or if I was interested in getting .380 dies so I could load for the caliber, and I just shook my head and sighed.
 
Myself and immediate family are the only ones to shoot my reloads. Friends know not to ask anymore.
 
All I know is my coworkers have wanted to buy any "extra ammo" I've had laying around. I'm talking stashed up factory loads only here. I tell them yeah I've got some I may let go of, so then they find the cheapest ammo price they can find I'm talking corrosive or steel cased, aluminum cased, steel core, cheapest crap they can find and then I tell then the price I need for my quality factory ammo and its at a fair price honestly, and all I get is well I can buy it for this price I found online. My response is if you could find it cheaper go ahead and buy it. After a while when others would ask I just tell them nope I ain't got any.

in all honestly, they just want something for nothing - and basically are trying to rob you. anyone who wants any amount of ammo - can readily go buy any amount of whatever brand they choose. it is just expensive and they don't want to pay - so they are happy enough to try to take advantage of you. such is human nature.
