New Ruger LC Carbine in 5.7

I normally like Gun Talks with Tom Grisham, but his son reminds me of a Spoiled brat with a lifted truck that daddy paid for.

Anyways, 5.7 carbine is something nobody asked for. in a 20+ round handgun or a full auto sub-gun with AP rounds, yes. But it pretty much has the powder of a .22 mag.

I have the Ruger 5.7, great light gun

Everyone has their own likes/dislikes, wants, needs etc (it's definitely not something I feel I need in my collection) and I applaud Ruger for their willingness to innovate but, IMHO, that thing is ugly as a bag of smashed a$$holes.
Wow!

My wonder is that the gun is not compliant in some major states and wouldn't be if a new AWB comes into practice. Wonder if they are sanguine about the state of upcoming gun laws?

The PCCs that Ruger makes can be made compliant to ban states. I don't see how this one can.

The California awb suffered major damage monday. It's only a matter of time before it falls and the rest will come down like dominoes.
I hope they pass the national awb, it too will get thrown out before it's ever enacted and the gun grabbers will have spent the last of what little political capital they had for nothing.

What's the point of 5.7 vs 5.56 for a carbine? I mean, obviously one fits in a handgun, but why would anyone want to shoot a 5.7 carbine? Now the original PDW was much smaller and had 50-round magazines and was easy to control in full-auto. There was something to that, but evidently not a large market. This is a blow-back operated pistol-cartridge carbine with an ungainly buffer-tube style AR stock even though it doesn't have a DI action, a gas piston, or a buffer tube. It's cheaper than a B&T or Kriss, but not less than an AR or an AK in 5.45 or 5.56. I don't see the point to it. Ruger calls it the "ultimate range companion." Why would someone want a range companion in 5.7 instead of 5.56 or x39?

I get that. I used to think the same of Lucas Botkin and there is something about his face and tone that makes me dislike him but if you can get past that, his videos are pretty awesome if you like pushing your gear to the limits and shooting fast and I gotta give him credit, for somebody who doesn't really compete, he's got skills. But, if I had the money to put a hundred thousand rounds through my stuff in one year, I'd be gnarly fast too.

I really like the idea of that ruger 5.7 rifle and considered a 5.7 for a period of 1 year. In that entire year I took note of every opportunity I would have had to buy ammo from my few local/semi local haunts. I only saw 5.7 ammo for sale a total of 4 times after many trips and it was outrageously expensive imo, and this was back in like 2017 during the good times. Of course I could have ordered it and stocked up, but I won't have anything to do with a cartridge that isn't common enough to be at my LGS on a regular basis.

Now if they came out with one in .22WMR I might consider it.

hopefully, 5.7x28 will come down to 9mm rates! it’s the worst round to reload

I can't even imagine trying to reload for an afternoon of plinking for 5.7

I love everything about it, except for the cost and availability. It's such a fun plinking cartridge and what I regard as a purely tactical/defensive cartridge, it's just too bad that it's so expensive. I went out and shot with a couple buddies when the FN 5.7 first came out and my buddy emptied his wallet on a couple cases and had absolutely no regard for how much shooting we did, on his dime. We shot well into the night, we just pumped mag after mag through that FN, then we used the WML he had on it for shooting in the forest and had targets set up everywhere. It is such a fun gun to shoot. Scary accurate too.....

you didn’t save the brass! lol

at the high of the ammo situation, 5.7 brass was $.50 a pop.

That’s kinda neat I guess but almost $1k mslp is absolutely laughable. I’d probably buy one at $350 or so. Really hard to imagine what ruger was thinking putting the development time into this when we have all been begging for a 10mm PCC or lever action.

Had to watch over half the video to actually see the gun. Black gun in front of Black shirt equal invisible gun

When I finally got yo see the gun a left handed firer obscured the gun with his non firing arm.

Hope someone makes a better video.

.22 Plinkster made a pretty good one - that was where I first heard of it:

Personally I like it - I applaud anyone willing to make a non-AR semi-auto rifle. No, if I was just in the market for a working gun I'd never go with one, but for an interesting toy - sure. If you price the FN PS90 compared to this its a heck of a bargain. Granted, you don't get the nifty 50-round magazines, but still :).

From a realistic perspective any national AWB isn't likely to be passed for at least 2-3 years minimum (potentially much longer - you're going to need to see Dems with control of the house, the presidency, and at least 56-57 senate seats before its a real threat). Plus with the recent Bruen SCOTUS case it would likely be thrown out anyways until there's a shift in the court.

As to the states where one does exist - even if they don't get thrown out, I think most gun manufacturers have basically written off those markets. Almost no one is trying to get any new guns on the CA roster anymore for example.

I like it and I like the little 5.7, wish someone made a 22 sized action with real locking lugs for the round. But don't really see why the semi when ammo he been over a $1 a round for probably 10 years.

Presume this carbine is straight blowback?
The ammo would be the issue for me; pain to reload, and I still can't get primers.
