They are going to make stuff that appeals to males age 25 to 45.

Yep. I'm 57 and when I talk guns to my co-workers who are 27 to 42 . . . they look at me with glazed over and bored eyes when I mention revolvers.

My co-workers that are my age range and up understand revolvers better, but they still prefer autoloaders over revolvers.

it’s true, after the age of 40, you get bored of plastic wonder 9’s and put rails on your lever guns, and revolvers, and shotguns

I normally like Gun Talks with Tom Grisham, but his son reminds me of a Spoiled brat with a lifted truck that daddy paid for.

Anyways, 5.7 carbine is something nobody asked for. in a 20+ round handgun or a full auto sub-gun with AP rounds, yes. But it pretty much has the powder of a .22 mag.

I have the Ruger 5.7, great light gun

I've seen this comparison and it's not very accurate. .22 magnum casings easily deform when trying to load in a magazine, 5.7x28 will not. .22 mag has some feeding issues. Watch comparison videos, MAC did one years back.

Rim lock is a thang with .22 mag/LR/short. Just treat your .22 mag like a 7.62R, load and slide, load and slide and you will be golden

As usual, plenty of sour grapes.

I like it. I always wanted a "tactical" type .22Mag for pest control. Not sure if this is better or worse but it's worth looking at.

As to comparing to AR's, if I thought there was that much overlap, there wouldn't be any interest. This is lighter, has a folding stock and takes handy 20rd pistol mags. It also won't make my ears bleed if I fire a shot without ear pro and is compatible with my rimfire suppressors.

As far as the price, I guess nobody is paying attention to the rampant inflation, COVID-era manufacturing practices or the rising cost of materials.

People are debating the point of it, home defense? plinking? varmints? but really, there is no purpose to this gun except for the sheer cool factor of a new space-age carbine in 5.7x28. Either you like it, or you don't.

Sure there is, any firearm can be used for some "purpose". I rarely buy guns without some sort of purpose in mind. I doubt plinking is one best suited to this particular firearm but they could certainly be used for home defense or pest control. Would make an excellent truck or UTV carbine. I'd say "utility" is the name of its game.

Of course you can find a use for almost anything, on paper the weapon is fine, in reality I think a .22 rimfire, or a .223, or a 9mm carbine, or various other guns are more practical than the LC Carbine for any given purpose... because of the cost, and availability, and limited selection of 5.7 ammo. I think Ruger designed this to sell to people who want a cool range toy. Nothing wrong with that.

I've got all the above and I still see a purpose for the 5.7 carbine. Everything I said above still applies. Just wish ammo was a little less of an issue.

I'm sure with how many more 5.7x28mm firearms are hitting the market, pricing on it will come down more.

The ruger PCC is way overpriced for what it is also, but so are most of its competitors, and yet people are buying them.

What competitors?? The 5.7 round only ends with one company and it isn't Ruger. Why didn't they incorporate their 50rd mag capacity? stupidity????
I do have to LOL at the people complain about the cost of the gun.. Yet have never researched the $$ per round, that will surpass the other quickly

The ruger PCC is the 9mm one. There are a bajillion 9mm carbines to choose from.

There are a few options for 5.7 carbines. CMMG makes their Banshee AR15, there was a company called AR57 that made an upper that used PS90 mags, and keltec makes a large pistol that also takes ps90 mags which you can put a folding brace on.

Funny you mention the cost of ammo. Yesterday I went to my local rental range to try out an H&K and they told me they are doing free rentals this month on the ruger 57 pistol, you just have to buy a box of ammo. I asked how much is a box of ammo? $64 he says. I said naw, I’ll just shoot my 9mm’s

I remember people saying 5.7x28 was a dead cartridge and wasn't going anywhere.
It's only gotten attention because it's higher capacity than 9mm, low recoil, soft armor defeating, and flat shooting (I'd like to see someone do 100 yard shooting with a 5.7 pistol tho) all in one.

The problem is no matter how tacticool it may be, it's a fad cartridge that no military or police forces are using in large quantities, the pistols are all XL sized compared to normal duty pistols, and the ammo situation is poor in few make it and the price is triple what 9mm costs.

Yet with all those negatives (and they are major detractions), there's still a following in certain gun circles and gun culture, specifically younger shooters.

I talk with the 20 and 30 something gun owners all the time and after 9mm they have interest in 10mm for power and interest in 5.7 for everything I mentioned.

Other than those calibers, it's meh for everything else, including .45.

For revolvers it's either a 9mm/.38/.357 snub, a cheapo .22 SAA, or nothing.

I bought federal 5.7x28 40gr fmj ammo the other day at a gun shop with a range for about $38 a box. About the cheapest I have seen it in 3 years.
The federal ammo used to go for as low as $25 a box if you could catch it on sale.
$67 for any normal is gouge pricing.
Ammo prices are kind of crashing.
