In my mind Kel Tec's quality and reliability is going to have to be an open question. I examined one of the first P32's and was appalled. That model went on, after some changes and improvements, to become a best seller, and I am told they now work. Good. But this KSG thing is the first Kel Tec product I've been interested in since.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. This is the battle Kel Tec is fighting, whether they realize it or not. Some of the plastic and machining in the first Kel Tecs was Positioned Off Center (POS, for short). While I applaud their innovative spirit I think there is a learning curve in anything.
The KTS answers a question that has been asked for some time, what is the best shotgun you can do, without invoking the mysteries of the NFA? I wish them good luck with it and the first one I see will be examined closely. (Once burned, twice shy.)
This is by no means an anti-Kel Tec screed. Their history is what it is; I want this gun to work because it actually fits purpose I have--maximum shotgun in minimum space.
