Shield is good introduction as there is still lack of quality subcomp in the market.

Well, I started carrying my Les Baer again in 2012, after a decade of living by the one-auto-system-at-a-time rule. (Glocks 2002-2004, SIG DAK 2004-2012) Not only did the 1911 manual of arms come right back to me, feeling very natural, but I learned I can switch back and forth from DA-only to SA-only with no fumbles. If I'd had the money, I would have bought myself another Baer, and a candidate at a local dealer very nearly got put on layaway. I love the way Baer frames are sculpted at the junction of the front strap and trigger guard.

S&W for the Shield.

I don't own one, nor do I have the desire to. But it certainly hit a sweet spot for a lot of CCWers going for a single stack that handles like a duty-sized.

Ruger sure made a lot
sr22
single ten
single nine
22/45 light
sr1911

There's so many great handguns it's hard to pick. I went with Ruger because of the LCP. It's a great entry in the pocket pistol category. But I love CZ, Sig, S&W, Springfield and a long list of others. I have at least one from every company I mentioned plus I have some others that are also excellent handguns. It's a tough choice but IMO Ruger has pushed the envelope the most in the recent past. The LCP is a reliable and fairly accurate pocket pistol. Considering how popular that type of gun has become I think they are leading the gun industry into the future (something they have done often IMO). And I'm not even a Ruger fanboy. Some of their stuff I wouldn't own just because of the fanboys.

I picked up 2 ruger handguns this year. A new KLCR, and a 1993 redhawk. When I am looking for a new handgun (or rifle for that matter) to scratch an itch I am looking Ruger first. Though if I were buying a duty carry I would be looking elsewhere. But most of my shooting is recreational, and I think Ruger has too good of a selection for that.

Obviously the M&P Shield. You have to pray to be able to find one. It does live up to the hype though. Honorable mention to the XDs, and the PPQ if it was released in 2012(might have been last year idk).

Wow ruger ahead.
I own 4 ruger pistols and 2 rifles but didn't vote ruger.
I have there LCP but dont care for the design or trust its safety.I like a gun with a fireing pin block.

My vote goes to the XDs or S&W Shield. Never shot either, but they are for sure the most innovative of the year.

I agree that they are great guns, but what makes them innovative?

The Ruger SR line up. I have the SR9. Round count hit 5K last month. I've had one, MAYBE two malfunctions, and they occurred in very unforgiving weather conditions.

This gun rocks.

Maybe innovative is the wrong word, but they for sure brought single stack striker fired sub-compacts more into the mainstream than they were before.

I'd buy that if you were sellin' it. :)

I nominate the newer S&W "Classic" Model 40 and/or Model 42; both discontinued, but can still be found NIB.

Wow, that's a wide range to look at isn't it?

Umm... I voted for Springfield for the XDs.

S&W has began production on the 460V again, so for an old gun being produced again, I guess them.
